They aren't going to be as reliable as 1988 Honda Civics that had like eight moving parts in the whole car but most of us know that already.

They are complicated, over-engineered, and sometimes troublesome. They are also not cheap to fix though I'm not sure how much is because they're made by ze Gerrrrrrmanzs and how much is because parts are expensive (again with ze Gerrrrrmanzs thing).

Audi's 35k mile service for the S4 is $815. This is definitely not a toaster oven.

That all being said, if you can find one that was good to the first owner and is well taken care of there's no reason you can't expect more of the same.

But again, it simply won't just be gas and oil changes for 350k miles. But there's something about the way Germans make cars that just can't be duplicated by anyone else as hard as the others have tried. And that's why I'm willing to put my balls in a vise and own an Audi.

Grats on the new ride! Pretty good price for a car in such good shape.

I love Audis...

But after being informed by charliemike about their depreciation rate, I'd probably buy one used too.

Thanks for the info.

I had a 3 series BMW a while back - loved the way it drove, so I know what you mean. I'm in a different place mentally now - I guess I'd rather own the car, then have the car own me. Sounds like the Audis right now. Too bad, too - I Love the way they look.

Congrats on the new ride! I wouldnt want an Audi out of warranty either.

Although an Audi with a warranty can be just as big a headache. Took weeks of faxing every documented oil change/service record/etc to get them to cover engine damage that was obviously a mechanical failure.

^ Yikes... that sucks. All maintenance is covered by Audi, so all services are done by them, so we've never had a problem. Our Audi dealer is awesome which is part of the reason we had no worries getting another one. That and her A4 was relatively trouble-free.

They cover maintenance on CPO or just the new car warranty?

^ Well technically you have to pay extra for the maintenance coverage after the new car warranty expires, but we got them to throw that coverage in.

Congrats; beautiful car (especially the birch interior trim).

Keep us posted on how trouble free your A6 is. I have been skeptical of CR when they give the C6 their coveted "CR Recommended" stamp of approval. What did the records for this car look like? How many times was it taken into the shop by the previous owner?

Kudos to Audi for climbing the ranks in quality and reliability.

So there's CPO and then a maintenance policy on top of it? Sorry if I seem dense but Audiusa.com doesn't really mention it. Says to contact a dealer and I'm not ready to give them a pound of flesh just yet

Records looked good. It had one minor problem at the 10k mark (can't remember what off-hand) and that was it. Everything else was just scheduled services. The tires and brakes are also brand new...

No worries And yes... you're correct. The warranty is one piece of the puzzle and it does not matter if you get it via CPO or if you buy an extended warranty (like we were originally going to do for the A4). Then, on top of that you have the option of purchasing maintenance coverage. I believe they quoted us like $760 for the A6, but again, we got them to cover that.

So now we have both... the CPO warranty coverage and the maintenance coverage on her car

Oil sludge?

JB, congrats on the ride! I had no major issues with my A4 and was actually the longest I ever kept a car. Says a lot.

I'd rock an Audi out of warranty, preventive maintenance is key!

Oh and the A6 looks super clean! I liked the loaner when i had one, very nice interior.

Didn't someone have a nice 530i that was stolen? You had an A4 around that time didn't you?

LOL, yeah. We pretty much had them by the short and curlies. The sales guy made the mistake of telling us on Saturday June 28th (when we test drove it) that he was 2 cars short of his bonus, and he had us and another couple who both looked like they were going to buy. So we walked out that Saturday, didn't call Sunday, then he called us Monday. We said we were going to hold off and just buy one off of eBay b/c we could get better deals. We got off the phone and apparently he surfed eBay for an hour or so, then called us back. We still said we had to think about it. He called us back again and they started throwing stuff at us (like the maintenance package) plus took more money off. They also gave us a killer trade in which no one else could touch... so we said OK.

The sales guy then drove from the dealership (about 20 miles away) to our house so we could sign the papers to get the deal closed by end of day June 30th (last day of the month). He drove back to the dealership, processed everything, handled our insurance and everything before going home (which was another 20 miles north of his job). So yeah... he wanted the deal bad.

Funny thing is we got this deal b/c it was the end of the month and they were close to their quota... but they ended up one short b/c that other couple did not buy. Oh well... we got our deal

Even funnier was that after we bought the car they realized it had the sport package (which my wife told them, but they said it was not an option on the A6 so they were marketing it w/o it)... so that was a nice caveat as well

Damn. Good advice. End of the month FTW. I guess my first question at a dealer should be "Are you near your quota?"

My granddad has a 99 A6 bought now that now has about 115k. He said he loves the car and it drives awesome. He is getting ready to get rid of it for something new, because hes worried something might go wrong.

LOL, I could have sworn someone on the boards back in the day had like a white 530i that was pretty pimped out and it was stolen or carbequed or something like that. Back when Soopa and those guys were around.

^ LOL. Possible... sales guy said all 2006+ A6's were quattro although a few 2005.5 A6's were available in FWD.

Either way... ours is quattro.

It is amazing how little car salesmen know about their products

Nice score on the A6. I've always liked the interiors on Audi.

They look beautiful, but how are the ergonomics? It's the one car that really faces the middle stack towards the driver. I've always wondered if they were as functional as beautiful.

^ Ergos are great. The MMI is very easy to use and functions you would use the most (Bluetooth/voice dialing and radio) are on the steering wheel. So far we love everything about this car!
