It doesn't seem like they really have much in common, so why are they both called the G35? They look completely different, and have different engines, transmissions, exhaust, frames, all panels are different, wheels, suspension...

seems like the only things they share are stereo controls and steering wheels. and the emblems on the back.

acura cl and tl have a lot more in common, and they got different names.

They use the same motor. The exhaust is different, but the coupe is marketed for as a luxo-sports coupe. So it gets a more free-flowing exhaust, larger wheels and brakes, etc. They don't have to look the same to carry the same badge.

They have the same engine except for ecu tuning. The transmissions are identical with the older Q45 and 350Z. Suspension is the same they just use different shocks and springs. Exhaust is different but from the headers area they are the same. Essentially you could use almost all the same performance parts that are used on the 350Z. They purposely designed it so that it wouldn't share any similar panels because they wanted it to be a bit different in that aspect. Look at the BMW 3 series. They're all 3 series except for "i" and "Ci". People will know of the G35 as Coupe or Sedan. The interior is very closely similar too. Yes, the seats are different, the grab handle is different and there are some other bits and pieces but they are very similar in keeping costs low. If you didnt already know they have the same platform, the FM platform. This is the same platform used for the 350z and FX. The G's is stretched a couple more inches as the wheelbase is bigger. They both are of sporting nature yet they wanted a similar lookin body style, if you get my drift. The difference would be the I30, not intended to be sporting as much as the G's.

Same engine, different exhaust/intake....similar to the CL-P and CL-S engines. The transmissions are the same with the exception of an AWD option in the sedan. internal materials are probably the same in both cars. And more importantly the platforms are probably the same.

Hey, the Accord coupe and sedan look different too.

OMG, You obviously have no clue about the car.

The cars are identical except for the sheet metal. Actually the 350Z is the same CAR! Same Engine, same transmissions, brakes, exhaust, suspension.

I always thought infiniti did a poor job naming the M45 and the G35c. i thought that they should have called the G35c the M because there was an M30 coupe convertable deal a while ago. and the M45 should have been the J45 because the J30 sport sedan thing they had a while back. this way there isnt the "G35" ambiguity. btw, the G has always been a sedan with the G20.

Infiniti website gives different hp and tq ratings for the coupe vs. sedan, with no explanation. I assumed different engine.

Transmission I wasn't sure about...but sedan has AWD coupe doesn't.

coupe has sequential multi-point fuel injection, sedan does not have this listed

standard brakes are not the same (small difference in size), and coupe has the brembo option sedan does not

wheels are different

exhaust is different in the back. it may not be functionally different, but coupe has dual in the back and sedan has both pipes on one side, so it has a completely different look.

plus they look completely different.

Sedan dynos the same as the coupe. It has everything the Coupe has including the multi-point fuel injection.

Standard brakes are the same as the 350z and g35c standard brakes.

If you think they look completely different, go get a pair of new glasses. lol

While we're discussing the the G35, we can discuss the Accord in the same light.

And the jury's out on whether or not the "280hp" G35C is any more powerful than the "260hp" G35S, seeing as both seem to post the same performance numbers WITH identical trannys.

Actually from the G boards it seems that with the manual tranny the sedan has identical numbers but with auto's the coupe seems to have a little more. Change in ecu maybe

well AWD is not an option on the coupe, and you can't get brembos on the sedan.

and I said I know the exhaust is functionally the same, but they ran it down one side in the sedan and split it on the coupe.

and they look nothing alike. all the lines are different.

and the reason I started this in the first place is a friend of mine who has the g35c just got a g35s as a loaner. he asked me why they are called the same. he said they drive like completely different cars and look like completely different cars. he said the interior is completely different and they have different stereos.

he doesn't know jack about cars...but his impression, as a g35 driver, was that the sedan is very different from the coupe.

Not quite.
While there is no much difference in 6MT between both the 5AT show actual difference.

The 5AT sedans typically dyno stock around 209whp (due to restrictive ECU as well as exhaust) while 5AT coupe stock show around 220whp . Of course that can be changed (for sedan) with Technonsquare ECU reflash and say Stillen exhaust and you'll have nice 225-230whp but there is the difference between the coupe and sedan in 5AT stock form. But who cares? that what mods are for

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why are g35c and g35s both called the g35?

The exhaust is exactly the same on both cars except where it hits the muffler. The muffler is on one side of the sedan instead of 2 outlets on the coupe. Lines might be different, because of 2 door vs 4 doors, but it looks very alike. Interior IS EXACTLY THE SAME. Your friend needs glasses. Stereos are the same except speaker placement.

Beet just said the same thing about the exhaust, read what you quote. To me, the sedan and coupe only look the same from the front quarter forward (except the hood)...similar from there back, and the rearends are totally different.

AND.....

So does every other Nissan brand and model. Not to mention Honda, Toyota, GM, etc. You might want to pick a different technical term to draw the parallel for the cars than one which is so generic it is akin to Kleenex.

MPFI is used on all cars today. No one is using TBI, etc. Maybe the cars have similar ECU mappings and use the same size injectors, etc. But I suspect the Maxima and Altima are very similar too but are certainly different vehicles.

BTW, what is the next flavor of the week?
