Back in the 60's, there was a company called Turbonique that made a turbine engine which hooked directly to the differential. They campaigned a few VW Beetles with this setup and they turned some amazing times. There was also a 1965 Chevelle Malibu Super Sport 396/375 with this setup. Now mind you, Chevrolet only built 201 396 Chevelles in 1965 AND it was the only year that particular engine (Z16) was offered. Actually, that 396 in that state of tune was not all that quick.
