What's wrong with Jaguars?
I was looking at XJ8s online because i saw a really classy looking black one with black rims, anywho i go to autotrader and to my surprise, i see a lot of MY 2000+ Jaggy XJ8s for relatively cheap compared to their brand new price. Heres an example
2004 Jaguar XJ8 w/ 18k miles, for 43k. Thats around 15k for only 1 year of use =X.
Anything wrong with Jaguars? Why does their resale suck so much. Or is this pretty normal for all cars?

Personally I think the XJ's are great cars. My dad had a 2000 XJ8 and a 2002 XJR and they were both problem free (granted he had them for about 4 years total). The XJR is an absolute blast to drive but they take a major hit after 1-2 years, but so do most of the cars in that category. Look at what happens to a 1-2yr old S and CL class Mercedes, its worse than the Jag.
IMO you couldnt go wrong with one, but do the homework on used cars, lots of good and bad ones out on the market.

The perception is still there, but I think the cars are much better. The resale value reflects the general populations perception of Jag quality.
Lady at work bought a 2001 or 2002 S type (v6) for mid $20K's... it's like a 40K car when new...

Now, the X Type is built off a Ford Mondeo platform and is not so great.
The S Type isn't really a Ford, Ford used the S Types platform for the Lincoln LS and Thunderbird.
Anyway, all new future Jags will be built on their own platforms.
Ford has only helped Jaguar.
I'm sure the new XK is going to be very nice, especially if it looks anything like the DB9.
In General, Jags have never really held their value well.

since ford took over the quality and repliability has improved IMO
Most of these high dollar cars take a HUGE hit, you can pick up 00 7 series for high 20's. 2001 porsche turbos w/ relatively low miles are going at auction for mid 60's
That's a 50%+ depreciation in 4 years.

If you think Jag's have a bad resale check out how much Maybach's depreciates in one year. On AutoTrader '04 Maybach 57's are going for low to mid $200K compared to what they go for new around $350K+, that's about a $100K+ hit in one year.
Jaguars are not as flashy as mercedes or bmw but they are much classier. nothing can beat all of that rich leather and wood in the interior. reliabliltiy sucks but at that price, owners can afford it

Speedy - who'd like to pick up used V12 Phaeton in a few years.

Jag had a great reputation for producing beautifully styled, voluptuous bodies on some of the most beautiful cars designed, but - the story was that you needed to buy two, since one or the other would be in the shop. Their electrical systems were notorious.
Ford did do a lot to mop up their reliability ratings, because, beautiful as the cars were, the weren't selling when someone could buy a bimmer or merc, with admittedly a less posh interior but a greater reliabiity and "engineered" factor. I think now the bias is that they are owned by ford, not something that has necessarily helped Land Rover, either. Aston Martin seesm to survive the guilt by association, but they're an Aston Martin...........
I don't think the current Jags captivate their potential audience the way they used to. And, they are pricy in relation to their competition. I eyed the small Jag very briefly, because with the deep discounts, it was within shooting range of a TL or TSX, but it needed so many options to bring it to any level of comparison, I gave it up (besides, I think the smallest Jag is the least attractive).
