For an unexperienced rider I highly recommend a smaller bike, work your way from there. Also if you can, get a riders course, I did when I started and it helps a lot even if you think that you know how to ride (everybody does), trust me you will learn a few tricks. I no longer ride because now there is no respect for riders and vice versa, plus I pick playing with my son for many years more over whatching him on the side lines. And yeah, Kawasaki ZX-12 all the way baby.

I can't understand what the big deal is about the 'Busa; it may be the fastest bike (until Kawi comes out with their latest ZX) but it ain't the quickest (unmodified) bike, nor is it the best track bike by any means. Don't get me wrong--the 'Busa is a very nice bike, but it ain't all that; personally, I'd buy a Gixxer 1K over the 'Busa any day.
If bragging rights are all you're looking for, then I guess the 'Busa will fit the bill...

the hayabusa is suzuki's 1300cc bike, it'll take on the gsxr1000..... it's the fastest bike in line.... but it can't out handle the smaller bikes.... i looked into one, but being only 5'8" i can't handle a bike that big, when at a stop, i have to tilt a lot more than usual just to put one foot on the floor.....

In 1999 the Hayabusa was the fastest motorcycle ever produced. It hit 201 mph. Plus ran a 1/4 mile in the low 9 seconds. But, it was goverened after 2000 (99% sure it was only'99 &'00 not goverened, buymay have been only the '99 without governor).
Anyway, now all bikes are goverened to 186 mph., so the busa isn't really the fastest bike anymore. 1/4 mile there aree a # of bikes that can beat any newer model year. It may be a little faster in 1 or 2 small areas, like top-end roll on's, or 60-80 mph roll-ons. From 0-60, even 0-100 a gsx-r1000 or kawi 1000 will take it for sure.
a new 600 supersport is quicker off te line, but will be caught by 60mph +/-.
In '97 when the CBR1100XX came out, it had a top speed about the same (possibly even equal to the '99 hayabusa. It didn't get there quite as fast, but it hit the same speed or a few mph less.
Plus, the busa is heavy, and doesn't handle near as good as a 600 and 750, even a 1000. Equal riders, the 1000's and I think the 750 would leave it behind on any road thats not straight. On a straight run, the busa would not take the lead till top-end when you had the bike in high rpms. And a 1000 may beat it, or would barley be behind it nearer top speeds.
But I am pretty damn sure that all bikes are only allowed a top speed of 186mph. AND dont say, well my speedometer said 190-something cause they are 7-8% and even more always and thats how they come from the factory. If anyone has has a bone-stock bike (2000-2001 and higher) professionally timed at over 186, let me know please..
Anyway....I think the best all-around sportbike is the GSX-r 750, no contest. It feels and handles like a 600, can keep up with the big bikes and has more than enough power than you'll ever be able to use to its potential. Full-out liter bikes are great if your well experienced and you take the bike to the track. 600's are even better for the track though.
I honestly like the late model CBR900RR's and ZX9-R's. They are very reliable, bullet-proof, comfortable on long rides and have plenty of power to ride with anything and after-market parts etc. to make it faster than anyone would ever need.
I'd also get a '97-'98 CBR600, especially the '98 Smoking Joe's Edition (the real smoking joe's bike). They made it in '96 and again in'98, but '96 is just the decal/paint option and not really worth basically much of anything more in price. The '98 is the real Smokin Joe Edition worth money and collectable, not just the decal/paint job.
A newer CBR600RR is themost enjoyable 600 I think. Really it isn't slower. A tiny little bit in a straight line if your both equal in skill. but barely. It rides so much easier and just handles better and is finished better for sure. It makes me feel much more comfortable and confidnt than any other 600. So I can push the bike harder and go faster because of this.
---->THat's as far as sportbikes go (which are my favorite anyway).
Cruiser's - I know this will piss lots of people off, but I honestly think Harley's are not all that great.
Firstoff, you are paying easily DOUBLE what the bike is actually worth just because of the Harley name on the tank, and people have to have them because that is what lots of people say is a "real bike" N
No, USA made crap either. 60% of the parts on a Harley are made in foreign countries and Showa, which Honda owns makes most of those parts.
Why pay for a name, when you could get a honda etc. for half the price and the quality of it is twice as good, and will cost WAY less in repair and labor for repair. plus it will last and run so much longer.
Harley holds its value, I'll give it that. But, why pay all that much more for the bike, accessory costs, part costs, labor costs etc. just because it's a harley. When it can't even be argued that a Honda or Yamaha cruiser is built so much better and the motor quality can't even be compared.
Ya, the sound. But, throw some drag pipes on a yamaha or honda etc. and it will sound just as loud and bad as any harley, some even louder. It has such a very close sound too. not 100% exact, but 99% of people who heard a honda with full dags would say, oh thats a Harley.
So, someone please explain their point of view so I can maybe understand....

Raheel- It was a Ducati 998 or 999, dont remember which was new that year. I don't think it was an Aprilia. I think I am thinking of that dumb biker movie (not biker boys) the other one with ice cube. the main guy in that rode a Mille for sure. Almost positive matrix was the 999 (maybe 998)

Geeze this is an old thread....but I'll put in my
BMW K1200S
I Say this because its a sport bike, but its classier than Japanese bikes and doesent give off that immature racer-boy image. This is pretty much my dream bike. BMW motorcycles have been apart of my family for two generations, so its been ground in my head to buy nothing but BMW motorcycles.
0-60 in 2.8 seconds is good enough for me.
