What would you do

Alright i figured i would ask the experts of the TL. The company (dealership) i work at had told me about an 2000 3.2 TL that is being traded in. it has 126000 miles on it. description says its scratchy and needs tires, thats all. anyways im a certified technician so anything minor with the car i can fix without a big deal. the only thing i am worried about is the transmisson. i havent seen the car yet due to the customers car is on a truck coming in shortly and when their new car shows up and when the TL will be there for me too look at. the buying price should be 5000-5500. would you think this a good buy with the known transmisson nightsmares? or would you make a run for it. rememeber this is a trade in therefore i know nothing for service history or atleast untill i see a shinny new tranny or whatnot. i also noticed on ebay the cars are not bringing all that much money either. so any advice/input would be welcome. thanks

brad

If I were you I'd buy StuntMonkey's '00 TL because it looks and drive great and it doesn't have any tranny problems for sure.

well i work for a dealership and they are pretty good at getting some cars cheap i guess. ive seen some real good steals. what got me started was an 04 TL for 22k but i cant afford that so they told me about the 00 coming in. so thats what started this all.

i can see no one really cares to help me out with the decision. but im guess what your saying is that if its in good shape i should make a run for it?

I'd say so. First I would see how much they would ask for it, and if it's anything less than $8,000 let it slide. But def be careful of the tranny. Mine is just fine but I have heard about others having serious problems with it. It's better to spend extra on a good car upfront than to have to keep paying for repairs on a cheap car in the long run.

well my plan was is to make a run for it and if the tranny does fail ill yank it out myself and send it out to a tranny shop for a rebuild and slap the bitch back in and then sell it. but i dont generally hold on to cars longer than 8-9 months. i always find cars for cheap so i always buy and sell them....last year i went through 8-10 cars i forget the exact amount. but this year i have slowed down.

living down there i duno... but its all being at the right place at the right time. and to be honest i only buy the cars for me to sell later and make a small profit...so eventually i work my way up to something i really want. but im sure your asking what do i really want. and to be honest i dont quite know, im a professional car whore, i cant fall in love with any car.

if you want when your ready to buy another car let me know. ill see if theres anything i might be able to pick up cheap. one other thing is you cant be picky when doing this. you have to just take whats there or nothing type of deal.

id jump all over that deal...transmissions arent really THAT much, especially if you work at acura...alot of people are bargaining with Acura corperate and getting their trannies more than half off, or even free

id get on it...drive the car first though and see if the tranny slips, if not its a steal
