Plus as I've said, dealing cars after 7 or 8 months isn't a winning game. Most of the cars I'm attracted to are non-Big 3, Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Nissan, Audi.etc.

Quality, reliability and resale value is very important and my T.L. passes the test with ease.

Thanks again for everyone's advice. It's the people on this site that make it great.

This is a big union town however, and the jobs are dissapearing fast as the Big 3 struggles, so driving an import, even though it's made in Marysville is not a popular choice.
A lot of the people on this site have little/no first hand experience with unions in rust belt manufacturing areas. It's not his buddies, it's people that have seen their jobs and lifestyles disappearing. These are people that you aren't going to sit down and have a conversation with.

These are 'my way or the highway folks'. For them and lots others, their way is the ONLY way. We seem to have gotten like this about politics, race, education, faith, conception and everything else.

You don't want to be rubbing their noses in your fancy foreign car much if you want to do business or have easy access. Sucks, just the way it is.

He should move

j/k All jokes aside, I think we get that. It is just a shame that the very people that went to work every day building inferior products would point the blame at a guy who is smart enough to purchase a vehicle that will last.

Alan Mullaly drives a Lexus ES350. Nobody is kicking down his door.

Sad but true.... you always hear a bunch of idiots vandalizing "Japanese" cars even thought they're built and designed by people here in the US. Retards.

Seriously hadn't thought of that angle. That really does suck that people can be so narrow minded.

Since you were thinking of a taking a hit anyway, how about coughing up a grand for a Ford Tempo JUST to drive to work etc...then get nice tints and enjoy driving your TL all other times.

I don't think the yahoos will consider that the TL has 70% domestic content, the same as the Mustang or Chevy Suburban, while Ford Escapes only have 65% domestic content, like the Pontiac Solstice and Vibe. For 2007 model year cars, see http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...nt-chart_N.htm.

Maybe you should buy a used Chevy Impala, Ford 500 or Crown Vic from a rental car company to use around town.

And unfortunately it's that mentality that has put the American automakers in the trouble they are in today. If they would have just built cars Americans wanted like the Japanese did, people would have bought them and they wouldn't be spiraling down the tubes.

That said, I understand your quandary. Short of moving out of town you may just want to keep your Acura and scoop up a very cheap domestic and use that for commuting. This way you won't take a bath on your Acura and you can use your it for road trips, etc. and use your domestic when you'll be seeing your Big 3 buddies...

+1 on tempo- or buy a 1996 Taurus and point to that as the spot where things really unravelled..

and I would double check your insurance make sure that you have full comprehensive to cover vandalism just in case.. not that I think your buddies will do anything, but I have a friend working for Detroit Diesel who does a long distance commute in a TDI Jetta- his car has taken some abuse at the hands of the local "Buy Detriot" crew..

My first advice is keep it unless the financial lose is not that much a concern.

Car? G8, great product from Holden but GM looks to be drastically cutting production for US import.

Another pick, friend bought a 2008 Malibu, really nice overall. The only negative is a NVH of the pushrod V6. The rest of the design/materials is up and better than Accord/Camry.

^ I think its actually a DOHC V6.... based off of the same family of engines as the Lambda/CTS/Camaro 3.6 V6. I agree though, I took a look at a new Malibu and it was very nice inside, and overall very quiet.

you're right it is a DOHC V6, I must not have looked that hard under the plastic cover.

A few decent products coming out of GM these days, too bad they didn't come out a decade ago.

what's crazy in Michigan another suck ass liberal state. if you buy a NON BIG 3 car. you gotta pay a tax every year on it when you go to renew your registration. It's a percentage of your car(I forget the exact percent). My brother in law had a 2005 RL. Even if it's made in america.(like the Accord and CR-V) it's where the company HQ is out of. so basically it can be made in Canada or Mexico but yet their HQ in Detriot that's fine..
and the whole reason behind this genius bill. TO PROMOTE American to buy American made cars. sounds like to me the UAW sponcered it personally.
