What sports car for under $70k?

So, if you had $70k to spend on a sports car, what would it be?

Not many qualifications other than it has to be higher hp, rear wheel drive, and FUN!! Something with exclusivity takes precedent.

I was thinking a Viper seeing as how much I loved the first one. But just to check out the playing feild, I have also become interested in a Lotus Esprit-don't know much about them though.

Anyways, what do y'all think??

I think I would take a Boxter S. With options it would be slamming into that ceiling and it is a great car, looks, name, speed etc.

Boxter S is nice, but soon, you will see them everywhere-not something that I would really want for a $70k car. Although, they do handle B-E-A-UTIFULLY.

So, getting a used car is also not a problem. In fact, I would prefer a used car so as not to have to take the initial depreciation hit.

I could probably squeeze a brand new or 1 year old 911 out of 70K right?

SC430 is not what I would call a sports car. Don;t get me wrong, it is a fabulous car for what it is, but by no means a sports car.

I actually have an apointment next week to look at an M3-never driven one, so we will see how that goes.

M5 is a great car, but not sure that 4 doors is apealing right now.

NSX-I am worried about the lack of power. It is a great car for handling, but to me, it severly lacks in the power department.

omg, are you kidding? for under $70K the new Z06 would win hands down! It'll outrun AND out-handle a Porsche turbo...I've never really been a corvette fan, but this one takes the cake!

Thats the one problem, I cannot fit in the C6 body-my legs dont fit comfortably around the steering wheel.

It kiils me that this is so, cause I would be all over a new Z.

Oh, and if I were to get a Porsche, I would wait a little longer, save up some more coin and get a GT3.

993 TT... Prices are pretty level now, so the depreceiation is just about done... Last of the aircooled 911's...

I'd rather have a 993 C2S, since they are quite rare... $50K would buy a nice one... (in reality, I think I could get by with a cheap mid $30K 1995 993 C2, and invest the other 40K).

C6 vette is nice, but since you already had a C5 Z06, I guess you're looking for something different

993TT-haven't thought of that-sounds good. I will have to start looking into them and see if I can find anything.

I think that the only way that another Vette would land in driveway is if it were a severly built Z06.

I have been looking heavily into a Noble M12 GTO 3R and M400, but they are just out of the price range.

Porsche cayman will be a dime a dozen-and I don't want that.

$75k is for the rolling chassis of the M400 only!! Then add about $20k in engine and tranny and you are well over the top.

I would love to get a Ferrari, but I DO NOT want the price tag of maintaining it!!

They are selling the M12 GTO 3R used for $81.900. The outside look is sweet, but the red suede interior, pedals all look cheap.

It is really going to be hard to find something totally unique in that price target.

All the M3s, M5s, porsches, and Corvettes are owned by a lot of people. Noble and Elise are probably the closest you will get to an exotic look in that range that won't be owned by a lot of people.

I don't think so. What I mean by unique is something that I wont see ten times a day.

For instance, there is a Viper in Houston, Steel Gray with Cognac interior-the exact color combo I would want, with extended warranty, for right about $50k. That would leave plenty to play with for wheels, exhaust etc.

Also, in looking at Esprits, I can get a 2002 for right about $60k.

So, while both cars are not considered exotic, they are rare enough that I wont see many others on the road. I was trying to see if anyone could come up with anything else.

Another car that I have been debating is a cobra replica by Superformance.

When new thay still only cost under $100k. Why-I have no idea. The more I read about it, the more I like it.

I would absolutley LOVE to have a Ferrari. However, I am a bit scared about the cost to keep it going. I have an apointment next week to talk with the service manager of Ferrari of San Antonio to see what it really is to maintain a prancing horse.

Thinking about that-that is REALLY cheap. Where did you find that car for so cheap?

On the 06 Z06............I had the same problem with you with my legs not being able to fit comfortably around the steering wheel in the C6. However, have you sat in a Z06? THey addressed this issue and I fit perfectly! Go try one out, it may surprise you. I know I was disenchanted with the Z06 until I sat in one and found the new layout gave me plenty of room.

Quick Reply: What sports car for under $70k?
