What is it with some guys and nice cars.

So, if you make enough coin to afford a nice car - maybe collectible car - why not keep it clean.

We are 'car sitting' (long-story) for a co-worker of my wife. It is a '90 Carrera 2. It is borderline filthy. You can tell that it is garage stored, but probably has not been cleaned in a year, or detailed... ever. It must be something about Porsche owners I have seen this before.

I have a baby, so my car and truck are not spotless always in showroom appearance. I can tell you, if I had a garage stored Porsche it would be near spotless all the time though.

It violated my standards so much that I washed it this morning...

Pisses me off more is someone that has a nice & fast car, & granny drives it.
Guy in a G37 in the right lane doing 5 mph under the limit
Or
The guy in the Z06 Corvette doing the speed limit but EVERYONE is passing him because the flow of traffic is greater.

Yet these little POS cars try to haul ass.

My buddy has a black C6 Z06 and it is a cop magnet. If a pack full of hondas and a Z06 is cruising along at 75 and a cop decides to be a prick. The vette will get it every time.

I agree with this... i had a Sable as my first car, and because it's a grandpa car, it avoided a lot of attention strictly because of that fact.

gotta agree with Cosco here. How do you know why they are driving it slow? Maybe they're sick and just trying to get home or to the doctor, maybe the car is being broken in, maybe they know how fast their car is but only drive it fast on the track instead of the street... and so on.

Tons of reasons why that Z06 is doing the speed limit and not 80mph... why should it be your business or concern?

I wouldn't be doing 100 mph everywhere because I had a Z06.

If I had a Ferrari I'd drive normally but down a gear or two so the engine was up in the rev band and wailing like a mofo

what made me really was that he specified, a G37 going 5 under in the right lane.... nothing wrong with that! now if it were the left lane.... that deserves a solid kick in the head from a steel toed boot.

One time, I was behind a Corvette in the fast lane on the highway and he was doing the speed limit of 65mph. Which is fine, but get out of the fast lane if you're going to do that. I drive a CR-V, it's no match for the Corvette, so when I get into the next lane and try to accelerate past him, he speeds up. So now I'm stuck in the slow lane behind another car, and he's doing the speed limit in the fast lane, and no one behind him can get past.

whether it's a nice car or not, i get annoyed when people can't keep their cars clean.

i hate going to lunch in certain coworkers' cars who have napkins, receipts, mcdonalds bags, cd's, hairbrushes, etc all over the seats and floors.

i just don't understand how people can do that.

but maybe that's just my OCD talking.

If you have the $ & buy a car that is a lot of $ I feel you should be at least enjoying the car, & having fun with it. Driving it in the 2 examples I gave doesn't seem to show that. If it was my car & I had that $ I'd be all over it.

It's something I see all the time here. A lot of people with $ here.

Just my They can drive it how they please, it's their car.

Well, they're just cruising. Driving at 65 is a bit more relaxing than 80 IMO, I usually do that when I'm getting home from school, though I admit its kind of fun when I'm almost late for work and I have an excuse to drive faster. For the most part though I stick to under 72 on the freeway, while on the right lanes.

I'm sure they're enjoying their cars. Even though I stick to the speed limit or under on the freeway, I've scared the shit out of people sitting at bus stops a few times while coming out of a green light right hander. Its more fun to roast the tires than to drive at 80mph... but thats just me.

They passed this fantastic new law here called the Stunt Driving Law to reduce racing. While the idea sounds good it is really a PITA. The law defines stunt driving to be 50km/hr over the speed limit, or reckless driving as observed by the charging officer such as too many and fast lane changes, extremely fast acceleration (WOT 0-60), etc.

Under this law you will be charged at least $1000 and have your car seized for a week and charged storage fees. There have been horror stories of $100k convertibles sitting in a outdoor lot getting pigeon crap on them, etc. and being left to the elements. The result is a lot of performance cars being 'granny' driven.

Believe me... I am granny driving pretty much all the time.

i don't expect everyone that has a fast car to drive 80+.

yes, it is annoying when a corvette is going below the speed limit, but there could be numerous reasons why. and that doesn't mean he/she isn't enoying the car.

I do agree that nice cars do need to be treated well. I also can not stand seeing a high dollar car a complete mess.

The range rover I had for a few months, the owner had all this crap in the hatch area. I had to clean it all out. Another guy here at work has a g35 sedan & never washes it. It's leased & he just doesn't care to wash it. He says "why bother, it's not my car".

I bet that Granny could drive circles around you on the track. She wasn't always 60+ years old ya know.

I tend to keep my cars pretty clean but there are times when I just don't give a crap. You should have seen my Cayenne just a few days ago. Wheels looked like they were powdercoated black and the sides of it looked gray instead of black. The back seat and boot are filled with baby toys and there are scraps of food all over the leather seats.

After work I was pretty tired and drove the speed limit all the way home in the right lane for 30 miles. Civics were passing me going 80+mph. Guess who cared? Not me.

But again, who says they're not enjoying it? Maybe they track it every weekend. Maybe they autocross. How do you know? Just b/c they're not having fun with it on the street in public doesn't mean they don't enjoy the car they spent coin on...

The opposite ticks me off. For example, the other day coming home in rush hour traffic, there was some schmuck in a 997 911 weaving in and out of traffic. He'd gun it and then brake really hard or swerve to avoid the car in front of him. What's funny was how he'd race past everybody only to get stuck at the light up ahead where the rest of traffic would catch up.

Some folks buy nice cars not because they are car enthusiasts, just because they have the money and want to blend in with the folks richer than them.

I don't care if a guy driving a nice car isn't beating it to death. What I do care about is if he's impeding the flow of traffic by driving slowly in the left lane and not showing courtesy to other drivers. What's even more infuriating is when they give me dirty looks because they think I'm some punk kid trying to speed (I just look like I'm 16) .

meh.. it's their car.. don't really care what they do with it. as far as Z06 going slower than the flow of traffic, i'd just change lane myself. why be lazy and complain? even less reason to bitch about if they weren't even in the same lane. they are not violating any laws

I agree. I don't really care what others do with their cars. Keep it clean or dirty, it's not my business.

One thing though.. I hate when there's napkin/crap/trash on the passenger seat if someone volunteers to drive.

It's no 911, but i rarely wash my 335i coupe. I simply don't care all that much about how it looks anymore. I just love driving it. When a car is brand new I'm more likely to wash it but i've never been anal about that stuff.

they drive their show cars normal because they don't want to attract more attention than they already have with their showy car. i bet the cops wish they would drive their show cars fast so they can pull them over for a speeding ticket.

I'm quite the opposite. I'm not a clean freak but just like on my desk at work, I like my car clean often. Even our Odyssey gets a hand wash at Flagship once a week like all my cars. I take care of the interior personally and I try to get someone detail them once a month. Makes me cringe that most 50k+ cars in this area have stupid amounts of brake dust on their wheels.

I have noticed that too... But I think there is something more to that than just neglect. My boss's X5's rims are black with dust just a few days after cleaning. Is it something to do with the pad materials or something?

I kinda like it when my wheels get the flat black look from brake dust.

heh, I get where you're coming from though, it is kinda fun to drive stupid on the highway with a group of people that you know. I pretty much never drive like that unless I'm following people and they decide to go crazy. Its just fun going at 90+ with a few other cars right behind you and in front of you, keeping the same pace. Wouldn't say its peer pressure.... more like people are more willing to do stupid things when others are doing the same, compared to doing it on your own.

What can I say, I just hang out with the wrong crowd I guess when it comes to cars.... Evo, STi, 350Z and Mustang owners don't drive slow.

I take great care of my car, and only a few times does it even approach being cluttered, but never dirty. People who can not take care of their car probably have a dirty home.

For the wife, however, I'm supposed to clean hers for her.
