what a great monday

So i went to court to fight my seatbelt ticket today. the police officer comes and tells the judge that he wants to turn the 5mph over the speed limit into a speeding ticket. so what was a 100 dollar ticket that was dropped then turned into a 185 dollar ticket. Im so broke now damn. I know the cop was letting me off in the first place but damn i was barely speeding and I wasnt wearing a seatbelt because i was parking.

this should be in the fuck my life thread

So when you showed up to fight the seat belt ticket, the issuing officer said he wanted to change it to speeding? So it was changed to speeding?

-- OP gets pulled over for speeding+not wearing a seal belt.
-- OP gets off the hook when the officer only gives him a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.
-- OP thinks he didnt deserve the ticket.
-- OP takes officer to court.
-- Officer gets upset and not only pursues the seat belt ticket but also imposes the speeding ticket fine.

I don't get it, If there was no speeding ticket for 5mph over the speed limit and he only issued the seat belt ticket, how can he prove that you were going 5mph over the limit? Can he actually say "Oh by the way, you were speeding back then too so here is a ticket for that now"?

he gave me a warning for speeding and a ticket for the belt. the cop had no grounds for the ticket for the belt and requested that the speeding ticket be amended.

Where did you get the ticket from what I understand police usually give you 5mph over unless its a school zone. But if thats not the case, you should have just taken the seat belt. Usually you are given quite a while to pay for the ticket couldnt just scrape up $100?

I don't get it. You said you didn't have a seatbelt on because you were parking, then how did he pull you over for speeding?

Something doesn't add up.

usually when you get into trouble for things that normal people don't one time, it usually means the officer had a bad day....

when you repeatedly get into trouble for things that normal people don't, it usually means you're an asshole prick to the police.

That, coupled with the fact that you're 19, and I'll stereotype and assume you have the same "know it all" attitude towards the law when I was that age, makes the whole story of the cops "screwing" you make perfect sense.

As soon as I start the engine, I put on my seat belt. End of story.

man it just sucks. fuck it i fought the law and the law won. Just would of never tried if i knew i could of been issued a ticket 3 months after the incident. well whatever I hope everyone here takes note of it and doesnt get pwned like me.

and to clear the story up exactly

I was driving home to pick up my friend, it was a 45, I was clocked doing 50. I pulled into my apartment complex and was backing into my parking space. the cop then pulls me over. he tells me he is giving me a seatbelt ticket and a speeding warning. he also said he clocked me going 50 but i was really doing 55 because he said so. I go to court because 100 dollars is alot for a friggin seatbelt. the cop asks the judge to amend the warning and turn it into a ticket. the judge agrees and im guilty for the speeding ticket and charged with going 55 in a 45 when i was never going over 50. so i own myself and instead of a 100 ticket i pay 184
