What Does AZine Think About The Jetta TDI?

You can use the touch up pen, it give you a bit more control. Just use it sparingly and do multiple coats.
Does your car have a lot of pearl in the paint?

Bringing this thread back from the dead, just to get an update.
Have you had any more problems with the car?
Are there things you wish the car had?
How is your mileage?
Question for other VW owners:
Do you like DSG or do you wish you would have gotten the MT?

It's been ~7 months of ownership so far and the only true complaint I have about my car is the grippy-ness of the leatherette used on the seats. If I need to adjust my seating position, I need to literally lift my body out of the seat and re-plant in the desired position. This often leads to me fidgeting and not ever able to quite find the "sweet spot" during some drives.
Does anybody know of something I can put on the leatherette to make it less grippy? Some conditioner or something?

Nope, no more issues. *knocks on wood*
The only thing I wish the car had is a navigation system with traffic info. Oh...well, I missed having a temp gauge in the beginning, but I've gotten used to it. I wouldn't mind a temp gauge and a boost gauge. Of course, these aren't things I can't fix on my own. Though, I'm happy with the Fender audio system, so I'm probably not touching that for a while.
Mileage is great! I haven't done any worse than 38 MPG combined. I average 40+. Definitely happy especially considering the traffic I'm in from time to time.

A little update.
We took a road trip to Vegas the second weekend in December. On our way home, I started to notice a humming/groaning noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear of the car. I didn't think much of it as I thought it maybe was engine noise since the pitch of the noise was related to the speed of the car.
As time went on, the noise didn't get any worse, but I became more sensitive to it. Putting the car in neutral and revving the engine while at speed didn't change the noise. Shutting the car off at speed didn't change the noise either. So, this told me that the noise was not caused by anything on the input side of the transmission. So, I though that it might be tire noise. However, I noticed that the noise did not change as I went over bumps or different types of pavement. The only thing that would change the noise was my speed.
So, my suspicion was that it was more likely a wheel bearing than tire noise. I took the car to the dealership yesterday and explained the noise to the service advisor. He had a tech go on a ride with me and the tech confirmed that there was an unusual noise coming from the rear. He put the car on the lift and spun the rear wheels and confirmed the right rear wheel bearing was going bad.
They put me in a Jetta 2.5 SE loaner. Not a bad car, but I like the DSG and diesel torque more. I should get my car back sometime next week (they're estimating Wednesday, but because of the holiday I'm not holding my breath).
I have to give the dealership some props. They didn't hesitate to send a tech on a drive with me (I was going to ask but the service advisor beat me to it), and the service advisor was putting me in a loaner before the tech knew what was wrong. Though, 5 minutes after the tech put the car on the lift he came in and confirmed the bad wheel bearing.
Though, I wonder...I'm just shy of 18k miles and a bad wheel bearing? I'm pretty sure I haven't driven over any crazy potholes or anything. I'm hoping this is a fluke and not a trend.

Thunder- I drove a TDI Passat at the San Diego Auto show this week and have to say I was impressed with the performance of the TDI. I didn't notice missing gauges that you come to expect in a car. With your problems and total experience, would you still recommend going from an Acura to a VW?
In my 7 years of owning an Acura, I have only seen the dealer 3 times for very trivial things (blown speaker, power steering recall, seat trim issue). There have been no overnight car stays, and no repeat trips to fix the same problem again. I'm sensing that I would need to get more acquainted with a dealer if I owned a VW again. My first car was a VW Scirocco and I knew the dealer a little too well.

I got my car back last Thursday (12/27) and all is good. The tech had no idea why it failed. My guess is it was most likely a manufacturing defect (hopefully ).
In fact, I think that the car rides a bit smoother and quieter than it did the day I picked it up. I don't know if this is my mind playing tricks on me, or if it was going bad from day one...
In any case. I'm happy.
I got to know the dealership very well with my '04 TSX as it was one that was subject to multiple AC compressor failures. Thankfully only one of the failures resulted in a complete system replacement, and thankfully I bought the extended warranty! So, if we are to rate a vehicle on 1) time away undergoing repairs, and 2) number of visits to the dealership for things other than scheduled maintenance, the Jetta has a long way to go.
If you've been entertaining the idea of going VW, I'd definitely say do it! I don't think there's a reason not to if it's appealing to you. VW is not Acura. It would definitely be different. I'm almost 20k miles into my Jetta and so far I have no regrets. I am very happy with my purchase.
Have you tried jacking the car up and spinning the wheel to see how it feels? If it's bad it should be obvious. I didn't do this in my case...if I did I would've brought the car in sooner.

Glad the car is working out for you and that the issues you've had, have been minimal. I really like the local Acura dealer and hope I can find a good VW dealer.
Once we get the financing for our house in order (hopefully will start building soon) I am going to get something.
Leaning heavily towards the Jetta Sportwagen TDI (kid on the way), but will look at the Audi A3 TDI. Will potentially look at the TSX Wagon and Passat TDI.
I wish the Audi A4 Avant was still available.

I don't trust the electronics on that... My buddy's car is 3 years old and he's running into issues already and the dealership isn't covering it under the warranty... I can understand some standard problems but electronics failing is a big no no for me...

You spelled beliefs wrong in your sig. It is plural not possessive.

So, it's time for me to buy tires. Actually, it was time almost 10k miles ago.
I'm probably going to buy them from Costco. Here is their selection:

Any recommendations? I've heard I should stay away from run-flats (I have a full size spare) and "low rolling resistance" tires as they can be a bit more abrasive (noise and/or performance wise) than their standard counterparts.
