What do you think about the Toyata Avalon?

280HP 3.5 V6 plus all the goodies for $40k Canadian? I think I'll have to check this one out as a CL-S replacement. Wonder if it will be available with a manual transmission?

Manual transmission

You know that the avalon is generally marketed as a grandpa's car right ?? It's for people who decided not to buy a buick.

EDIT: Oh, you're 35... nevermind

haha, and the CL/TL isn't an old man's car? I'd never heard of an Avalon before reading the review. Maybe previous iterations were a bit stodgy, but this one appeals to me. I guess I am getting old! Maybe if I put a pic-nic table sized lip on the trunk I could get some of my youth back.

I sat in it at the car show. It's definitely not anywhere near a sport sedan, but it looks pretty nice, is extremely comfortable, is very well built (feels like a Lexus) and has good power. I personally wouldn't get one, but if you value comfort, reliability and space over sport, it's an excellent choice

That's definitely an old man's car and 's dream car! The back reminds me of a G35 for some odd reason.

My father loves his Avalon. I think he's on his third one.

Yes, the demographics reflected in the above posts are right on. Like many Toyotas, even though it's a bit unexciting, it is a reliable car and he's put over 100K on each one trouble free. Having been in the driver's seat, passenger seat and rear seats, I must say it is quite roomy and comfortable.

First time I saw the new Avalon was from the back, and I thought it was a fucked up G35 or something.

on Car and Driver TV this morning they rated the new Avalon 0-60 at 6.6. and it has tighter suspension. i wouldent call it an old man car just a bland alternative to a TL

I've sat in one and drove one. It's not that exciting to drive(even though it's 280 hp). Like others said you can tell it's a old timer's car. if that's your thing thats fine.
If it was me i'd save a little more paper and go for either a:
New TL no navigation
or
Maxima(i don't like the new styling but if you do more power to you man)
or
Altima SE-R 3.5 (this is the one I'd go for man) with the 6 speed. it not only looks nice. but the factory wheels GO GREAT WITH THAT CAR. . This will run close to the new TL. plus you get a lot of bang for the buck.

Any fast car = high insurance premiums. Take a look at an Evo 8 if you don't believe me. And what kind of person who can afford a $35K car would care about gas mileage? Even a Honda S2000 has shitty gas mileage.

Avalon is a great car for the long haul, but if you are looking to raise your pulse you might to go for a jog instead.

u defintely dont know much about 300c...

300c is basically an E class and it has GREAT gas mileage for a V8...if i remember correctly it s 18/28... because it only use 4 of the 8 cylinders normally and all u have to do it step a little deeper and u will get the 340 HP.
