What to do with Chrome Wheels (damaged)?
A question for all my A-ziners....what can you do with damaged chrome wheels? I posted before showing that the chrome in my wheels is flaking off (nothing big, yet), and off course Acura says that this is due to cleaning methods and not a manufacturing defect.....that's a fight for another day.....
My question today is, is there anything that you can do to chrome wheels to fix or re-finish, or paint, or.....I don't know....I am not a big fan of the chrome to begin with, so I wouldn't mind getting rid of it if at all possible.....

As for what you can do? Either re-chrome them or powder coat them...

there is also a company that does wheel repair. American Wheel Repair or something like that. I've had them fix the wheels on my TL a couple of times, and they do a great job.

Not sure where in CT you are, but I just typed Powder Coating +Connecticut into Google and about 10 businesses popped up not counting the other search results. I've never had powder coating done, but I would imagine you would want to go to a shop that specializes in it verses just any body shop...

Are they your OEM wheels?
If so, I have a company I buy from based out of PA (www.wheelcollision.com), they sell refinished wheels to factory spec. BUT, I don't know if they have the chrome wheels listed on their web site. I had a customer that I sold a BMW 650 to and did a chrome wheel exchange with a company in CA (Apparently that's the only state can do chroming and it's legal, because it's illegal anywhere else in the US). Fast forward about 2 years, 2 wheels started to get all pitted, AND they were bent/cracked to the effect that they weren't holding air anymore. From what I hear, it's more expensive to take a chrome wheel to have someone strip it and re-chrome it. My customer ended up going to BMW for service and they replaced the two chrome wheels with 2 brand new alloy wheels for the car ( ).So I called up the guys in PA and he helped me find 2 wheels from a supplier of his in CA, I did the swap with him, so I saved some money in the core charge of turning in the alloy wheels to him.

where is....
chrome wheels are kinda iffy, you cant sandblast them because the aluminum underneth it too soft and will cause pitting. powdercoating is ok, except its kinda expensive.
i vote new wheels and sell off the old ones.
