my spot is next to a blk/blk CLK63. maybe black series? there is a huge diffuser in the rear bumper, along with a factory widebody kit. got me thinking - the 63 series for MB is super exclusive. its as if to say regular "55" AMGs wont cut it. guess it is on par with the S/RS series for audi.

i thought ive seen a few in the wild, but it always turns out to be the kid that parks next to me in my bldg. he carelessly parks in any ol' space at the gym, grocery store, etc. drives me nuts. esp. b/c hes in his 20s - maybe even a college student.

yeah, I think the original intent of the post has gone totally astray...best examples I've read so far: Renault Clio, Grand National, Neon SRT-4, possibly the Caddy CTS-V. The base car should be mundane, not a supercar and preferably with the special versions having some type of production run and not "one-offs"...

I'll add one...Ford Lightning SVT

and Harley Davidson Edition with same powertrain

But I don't know how you can't include the CTS-V in the discussion...

And I think I actually prefer the sedan.

This. The base car doesn't necessarily have to be "mundane", but its performance edition has to be that much better. That's why I think cars like the CTS-V are good examples. It's an entry-level luxury car that just happens to have 550 horsepower.

I'm a huge fan of even the regular X5. I would take one any day of the week. Especially an M.

Not crazy at all. But like I said, I'd take even a regular X6 in a heartbeat. Honestly, aesthetically I don't see a huge difference between some regular X5's and X6's and the M versions. Must mostly be under the hood.

I don't know what's up with that link. If you click the picture and refresh it should come up as a CTS-V. And it's DEFINITELY worth your time to do it.

The X6 is an acquired taste. I've driven the BMW E70 4.8 and had a total blast behind the wheel. I can imagine how much more fun the E70 M would be in comparison to the 4.8.

^^^ not fair. thats a jonathan sibal illustration that has had a LOT of work done to it . he made that rendering before the M version even leaked. pretty freaking accurate. That guy is a god in my book. speaking of limited editions....

How can this discussion go this far without someone mentioning a special edition Mustang? I'll take the Boss 302...

If the base Mustang is not mundane enough, then right there near the top of the list for "transformations" has got to be the GMC "special editions": the Typhoon/Syclone...

While the 69 COPO Camaro is my favorite special edition car, I wanted to bring up another one.

The 88-89 Mazda 323 GTX.

While it may not look that special, this car came about as a result of Mazda wanting to take part in Group A rally racing. FIA regulations said they had to produce 5000 road going versions of the car to homologate the car. Power came from a 1.6 liter twin cam 16 valve turbo 4 and was delivered to the pavement via AWD. This was essentially a rally car tuned down for street use. It cost roughly twice as much as a base 323.

Funny thing is that I love it for all the reasons why people hate it.

I love the fact that it has nice curves, ultra comfortable, and drives like a boat even though it has a v8.

Finding replacement wear/tear parts (floor mats, leather seats, etc) are really hard though since they're limited edition. That goes for all special/limited edition.
