Well, the Sonata 2.0t clearly works..

My first sale at my new job was a 2.0t Limited. 81 year old guy.

He took delivery and immediately drove it to Florida on a trip.

So I'm minding my own business today, walk by my boss and he tells me that the guy called with a complaint. Apparently, the car accelerates out of control. The first thing I said was, "It's not a Toyota." Lol. The guy got a ticket for going 106 in a 60.

Just felt like sharing that, lol, these Sonata Turbos are AMAZING, and trust me, I'm a huge Honda/Nissan snob. I never thought I'd be ooh and awwing over Hyundais, but I do now.

81 year old guy going 106 in a 60? Unless his name was Carroll Shelby (which it isn't if he bought a Sonata), I'd be doubtful and seriously recommend you tell him to bring the car back in to get it checked out.

But it sounds like a pretty cool car, and a pretty cool job.

He is bringing it back Monday to get a pin-stripe put on. I seriously doubt it's the car; the few times I rode with him he drove pretty fast lol.

It is, and it is most of the time.

The car is amazing. The Sonata used to be junk, but hey, it was cheaper than the competition. Now, it's at the top of the class and it's still cheaper.

I like the job, but the hours are long. Could be way worse though, for selling cars. This is the cream of the crop dealership to work for here in town, and that's what attracted me to it. Seriously, we are the #1 Hyundai dealer in TN by far, and I believe in the region too. Not only that, but our reputation is flawless. Good perks too. Could be a lot worse.

I am seeing a TON of the new sonatas driving around. Our Hyundai dealer must be selling them like hot cakes.

Well no one can blame you, Hyundai is starting to take over as the new Honda, isn't it?

I'd expect it to be around 6 seconds flat 0-60

That's what I think. Maybe Hyundai just grossly underates the car.

While I commend Hyundai on what they've done with their cars, I must say the new Sonata Hybrid is ghastly.

I sat in a sonata recently and the interior is awesome (I fell in love with it), exterior lines are wonderful. Very different and a lot better then any midsize thats out there right now. The only thing I havent experienced is the driving dynamics, I hope to be able to do that within a year.

Word. They're not quite there yet for fit and finish; the window/lock/sunroof etc. switches have nothing on a Honda's. Still, it's not "bad".

Sorta. It's 100% commission, BUT, we get paid a SIGNIFICANT base salary (for the slow months; it's called a draw). It's literally twice, three times the amount other dealerships pay.

The perks here are nice; just found out today that I'm getting a huge Turkey for Thanksgiving next week. They give one to each employee. That's just one of many.

It's def. between 6 flat and 6.2. It's crazy how quickly (and effortlessly) the car gets up to speed.

A buddy of mine in Philadelphia bought a non-turbo Limited the same day I got my Santa Fe and he said the car is deceptively smooth. He was getting on the freeway and thought he was going 65...a glance at the speedometer revealed his speed as 85.

I'm really glad for Hyundai, they have came a long way. It's always good to have competition because it forces every player to up their game.

On a side note: Wake up Honda. Long overdue in drivetrain updates and technology innovation. Hyundai's got a twin scroll four, 200hp+ hybrid, and a NA direct injected varients in the same shell.

The sensation/feel of acceleration is totally different. It's the sound/feel of a 4 cylinder with a very faint whoosh, and you're gone. My TL is more involving, being a manual and all. You have to work a little harder to get big speed with my Acura. Numbers wise, my car will outrun it, but it sure would give me a run for the money. I'm sure if I got a bad launch and the 2.0t got a good launch, I'd probably be left behind. But I dunno, once I shift into 3rd it would probably be over; it happens like clockwork, every time.

However, as impressed as I am with the 2.0t, it still sounds like shit (all 4 bangers do, to me at least). I'll happily take the glorious sound of my VTEC screaming over a teensy whoosh and 4 cylinder thrash. Both the 2.4 and the 2.0t, while competent no doubt, sound a bit thrashy near redline, which is the complete opposite of my Acura. I'm half embarrassed to admit this, being a car nut and all, but if I don't watch my tach I'll bump right into the rev limiter in 2nd gear. Happens all the time. In either Sonata, you're gonna damn well know you're nearing redline without having to check the tach.

This is what will keep me away from these otherwise fine cars. Same thing will probably happen with the soon to come Buick Regal GS....off topic.

I would agree that the TL would probably run away a little on highway runs, but the turbo would be right there or even a little ahead in the short runs and backroads. I would have to disagree on the engine sounds though...I've had the CL-S and very much enjoyed taching that thing out, and I now have a subaru legacy with the 2.5t. I had my old comptech mufflers from the CL slightly modded to fit on the subaru. In all honesty, the acura NEVER sounded as good as the subaru does with them!

Well to be truthful I didnt like the sound of the 2.4 in the new Sonata. It does sound bad compared to my V6 3.0 which has that expensive smooth sound of a V6.

Boxer 4 > Inline 4 for sound.

I'm actually glad that was bought up though because now I'd probably steer away from the Sonata. I will always appreciate the power potential of a 4 banger turbo , but it's so far different than a nicely tuned V6 or V8. Kind of a deal breaker I think. Guess I'll have to move my interests back to a pre-owned G8 GT.

Before basing things off of other peoples thoughts why not go test drive one for yourself to base your own opinion?

And to be quite honest, i have never heard a I4 (a good one) sound as good as a I6 v6 or V8 (also a good V6 or V8). Some are better than others but none compare to the 6 or 8

I find some 4-bangers do sound pretty nice, i.e. S2000. The 4-banger in the current-gen Civic sounds like crap, though. The Si seems to sound better.

The new Hyundai Sonatas are fast but not that fast. 0-60 comes around the 6 seconds area. Assuming quarter mile is around the 14s. I don't see how he said the car "accelerates out of control", its no Zonda, or Gumpert. I think the old man just kept his foot down, and besides old people like him shouldn't be driving turbo'd vehicles =), heck, no old people that old should be driving! I seen old people, they drive pretty bad.

I agree. Considering how in the real-world the mpg and performance numbers are still competitive, Honda is still doing a pretty good job in given the old tech, while others have to use DI, turbo, and other new techs. But with new engines/drivetrains, man, Honda can blow the competition away easily!

I'm not sure if you were referring to Honda or Hyundai. When I said NA direct injected in my previous post, I was referring to the 2.4 in the Sonata. I believe the new 2.0t in the Sonata is also direct injected.

Are you saying Honda/Acura is implementing DI into their motors in 2014?

Quick Reply: Well, the Sonata 2.0t clearly works..
