Next comes fenders, rock rails, new wheels, 44s, upgraded diffs, brodozer lights.
#jeeplyfe
Probably going to keep the fenders. The aftermarket ones are unbelievably expensive and not worth it IMO. Will be adding rock rails soon. I like the wheels already on it. Already have front and rear lockers and Dana 44's on both ends. Hard no on the brodozer lights or the angry grill lol.

Yes.
CJ is from the 70's-80's and super desirable and expensive. YJ is from the 80's-90's and is the least desirable. TJ is from the 90's-00's and is mid range in desirability. JK/JKU is from 00's-10's and is the one you see the most of on the road. JL/JLU/JT are the current models.
Congrats on the JKUR! Are those 1st gen MTRs? I had the second gen MTRs on my 2013 JKU and loved them for wheeling, but tolerated them on road. They were loud and impossible to balance, but gripped rocks like no other. Ended up swapping them out for nitto ridge graps. You'll love the KO2s, a great AT. The stock headlights are dangerously terrible, great call on the JW speakers.
I'm assuming you have 4.10 gears? Did the previous owner run a procal or anything to correct the speedo to the tires? Do you know if the water pump was replaced? It's a common problem with the 2012+ JKs.
Any other mods planned? Looks like the mopar lift kit is pretty loaded with teraflex speed bumps, limiting straps and front lower control arms. Is their exhaust spacer installed? Normally a lift that tall on the JKU, the front driveshaft will make contact at the cross member at full articulation.

My biggest complaint about the JKU is the backseat. Recline kit for the backseat would be one of the first mods if I had one I think there's some kind of support bracket for the seat bottom too?
It's like a perfect L shape, with the seat back seemingly perfectly perpendicular to the ground. I had to sit back there for about over an hour in traffic and fucking hated it. Since we were at a crawl, I took off the seat belt and laid sideways to get relief.
I'm being overly dramatic. But I would rather sit in the back of '90s 3000GT or Eclipse than the back of a JKU again.
Or maybe you don't carry passengers in the back of it, or you want reserve it for people you hate. In that case, fuck 'em! They deserve the scoliosis.

Thanks man!
I'm pretty sure these are the 1G MTR's just because they are original to the Jeep from 2013. They are unbelievably loud on the road and rough riding. I'm not going to go mudding or crawling enough to want to deal with them around town so they have to go. New tires are already ordered and arriving tomorrow. Install is scheduled for Friday morning so I'm excited. I'll probably sell these tires off since they still have ~50% life left in them.
Yup, Jeep has the stock 4.10 gears and the previous owner did correct the speedo for the tires. He actually bought this Jeep new as-is off the lot, it was one of those "pre-modded" overpriced ones that are on every Jeep lot, so everything is pretty set. Yes, it did come with the exhaust spacers installed but they didn't replace the front driveshaft with a longer one so that'll have to happen eventually The only other things they didn't do with the lift and tires was to replace the front track bar or raise the third brake light. So, that said, new track bar should be at my house today and I'm waffling over just getting a tail light extension or a whole different bracket with CB antenna mount.
As far as other mods go, just going to put on some step rock rails, install a backup camera, mesh insert for the grille, new grab bars to make getting in and out easier, and shop around for a used OE Hard Rock bumper for the front at least. After that I think I'm going to be good, going any further will probably end in divorce.

Yeah, the back seats are pretty terrible. They were a total afterthought for the unlimited design lol. Fortunately, the only person sitting back there for any appreciable amount of time is the dog and he doesn't care about the recline. If/when our family grows, I'll get the recline kit installed...or just make my own lol.
Got the new track bar bolted on last night, was a way easier project than any car work I've ever done. Got the old one out and new one installed in about 20 minutes. The longest time was to torque the thing down to 130ftlbs while holding the back nut in place. Then adjusting the steering wheel for center. The enormous amount of space underneath to work in is amazing. Didn't even have to jack it up and I fit just fine underneath.
Pics of old and new. It made a MASSIVE difference in how this thing drives, way better and more confident than before. Next step is to get an alignment and call this project done! New tires tomorrow morning.
Got curious & peeked around at some Jeeps. Crazy how well they hold value, even stock. JLUs are near sticker on the used market. JKUs not a whole lot less.
It lessens the side to side flex of the axle in relation to the body. Can still flex all day over dem mall curbs though!

Yeah, it's insane. Basically all 2012+ JKU rubicons around here with clean titles are within ~$4k of each other regardless of miles. It's surprising to me just because there's no shortage in supply and it's not exactly a rare car to begin with.

I was poking around, looking at Sahara trim 2.0T JLUs. $50k, new, and not a lot less CPO/used. And those don't appear to be 'loaded'. If I decided I wanted a Jeep, it'd be a DD for one of us, and just don't see the Rubi being worth the $$ for what would essentially be a pavement princess; with it's only 'off-road' time being the gravel/dirt roads at our ranch 1-3 times a year.
The MK7 chassis is already fantastic, can't imagine how it feels now. What tires are you getting?
wut? All these are going on the Jeep. Golf is still bone stock.
I'm getting some 315/70/17 (35") BFG KO2 tires for the Jeep, apparently these are the stock Ford Raptor tires. The OE tires are still alive and well on the R since they only have ~4k-5k miles on them.

If you're never going to off road it, the Rubi isn't worth the money. The only upside then would be the better resale value for the Rubicons.
If you're just going to DD the thing, I'd look into a Sport S instead of the Sahara. It's quite a lot cheaper, similar feature set, and it's not like the Sahara will drive any better. Also, I'd stick with the 3.6L V6, they've had a number of issues with the turbo 4 and the electric system that goes with it. I wouldn't trust a first year FCA motor anyway.
Honestly, if you're never going to leave the pavement, I wouldn't buy a Jeep. There are far better cars at driving around town.

This should be the all encompassing SamDoe's car thread

Good points. I'd forgotten about the Sport S.
Doubt the wife would want to DD a JxU anyway. Though they do return pretty similar MPG to the Flex

I thought this was for your Golf R!
I'm changing this into a thread for all of my cars lol. I don't do enough stuff like the rest of you to warrant each car having its own thread. In all likelihood, most of what you see in here will probably be Jeep content other than me possibly putting a tune on the Golf soon. There's a 99% chance that there will be zero Subaru content.
Something about the throttle and steering and manual gearbox make the Jeep fun to drive anywhere...
then again, I feel that way about the Yukon too.
The Jeep definitely has a unique style. Instead of being firm, composed, and pointed like the performance cars we're all used to, it just has an IDGAF attitude about driving and sorta just ambles down the road without a care.
Mods that are actually planned, in the order that they'll get done in: 1.) Replace tires with BFG K02's
2.) Raise third brake light to clear the spare tire, it's currently hidden and I don't like that. 3.) Replace headlights with LED units. The current ones are basically candles.
4.) Replace headunit with one that has Android Auto and backup camera, infotainment from 2013 isn't really very good and backing up with a 35" tire in the way is a pain/unsafe.
5.) Add steel step rails to replace the plastic ones that are on there.
Well this certainly hasn't been the order I've done them in but checked off another item from the list. Replaced the noisy AF MT/R tires with new BFG KO2 tires. Makes the Jeep ride and sound like an entirely different truck, SO MUCH BETTER and worth every penny. Already sold off the old tires for a good amount too. Next I'll start looking into the brake light thing...
Between you & the yellow JLU on here, and my neighbor working for one of the Houston DCJR dealers bringing home a Gladiator (demo) over the weekend. Getting a bit of Jeep fever.

Thanks J! I love these, makes the Jeep so much more livable. I was seriously contemplating lowering it and putting on smaller tires because I was so offput by the MTR's. Now I'm definitely keeping it as is.

Jeep is a ton of fun but, if you want it as a daily, I'd look elsewhere. It's pretty terrible as a daily and the fuel economy, even highway, is awful. I drove it up north over the weekend and averaged 15.5mpg on the highway lol.

Yeah, that's one of the things giving me pause. Whatever it is will definitely be DD for one of us.
The Flex is still acting up, so it may be time to start shopping around.

I was looking at those for my previous truck. Quoted $1250 at the time just for tires.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people who DD these things all the time but if you plan on doing that then I'd recommend just getting a Sahara or Sport S as they are more "street friendly" than the Rubicons. If you do go Rubi, don't lift it and add big tires...but the mod bug for these will bite hard and fast as there are TONS of parts at reasonable prices.

These were about that much for all 5 tires, adding install, warranty, and tax they were ~$1500 out the door. Then got a 15% rebate on the purchase price and sold the old tires for $500 so whatever that works out to being...something like $700 in cash added.

Yeah, definitely wouldn't go for a Rubicon, would be a waste around here.
Definitely a Sahara or Sport S, or an Altitude.
Just a fleeting thought for now. If we can get the Flex in normal working order again, we'll keep kicking it down the road a bit more. Definitely cheaper in the long run than a car note; especially since she really wants a Telluride.
Signed up for an offroad class in the iron range in a couple weeks (Sep 27th), super excited to finally get some dirt/mud on this thing.
New tires are awesome, so much quieter than before. I'm super happy with the pick up. Next step is to look for a set of OE rock rails for cheap and then follow it up with steel step rails to replace the plastic ones I have now.

This is on my short list...
curious, are we not supposed to also do the rear one.
I think I figured out I have a 2" rough country suspension lift and a 1.5" body lift...
What adjustable track bar did you end up going with? Also, do you adjust it to match the stock track bar to start?
I watched a video where the guy dropped oem track bar...hopped up and down on suspension and rolled it lightly back and forth
then adjusted to fit that. Then adjusted the steering wheel (how did you do that?).
Got the AC working this weekend with my buddy...and realized my sway bar bushings are COOKED and not doing anything.
Got some energy suspension replacements on the way.
