Just went to took a GTI SE for a spin, with both kids in tow. Impressive performance, I went in with low expectations & was quite impressed. I wanted to not like it, but it may just edge out the 6.
They only had 1 Autobahn & their R was in the showroom. Was surprised the R didn't have a sunroof.
Will definitely have to go back for a longer, less trafficky, kidless test drive. Though, I will say that the 6AT wasn't super responsive in manual mode at higher RPMs, was expecting quicker shifts. It did shift quite quickly at lower normal RPMs.

I would definitely love one but for some reason I find the Mark 6 to be a bit more aggressive looking.
There's no doubt the DSG is fast and fun...the Caddy has a pretty slow shifter for an auto but...
I still think a manual is the answer for the entire visceral driving experience.
Luckily, you still have the S2000 to feel that in...if you didn't, in a few months you'd agree that you missed having the manual experience. I can almost guarantee it.

Guess they figured a way around now since they are coming with opening lids and still no latch.It's a fun little car that's got nothing to prove to anyone and is shockingly spacious on the inside. No regrets at this point.

To be honest, it's looking more and more like the S2000 will be put up for sale later this summer or early next. We just don't use it together anymore and it sucks to feel guilty that we can't bring the pup (and if we ever have a kid) along with us for cruises. Now that I have a fast and fun daily, the S will probably sit around gathering dust even more. I know I said I'd keep it but I'm not sure anymore.

I'm a logical purist.
The departure of the S2000 will likely lead to a Wrangler Unlimited that will provide endless top down (and door off) fun for a family of 3-4 and many many adventures and trips to see different off road trails all over the country.

I like the s2000, but I see where Sam is coming from. It isn't very practical, small as fuck, and has very limited applications. Jeeps can be a ton of fun and are a blast riding around in when completely stripped of body panels. Plus... what can't you do in a jeep??
I myself considered a 6MT jeep at one point, but I've heard many times that the wrangler style jeeps are actually terrible for driving in... shit down the highway, noisy as fuck, always correcting the steering, etc... not sure if true... I've only had limited city exprience. I heard the shifting is abysmal also, more like a big rig truck than anything slick and smooth shifting these days, at least as far as the manual is concerned. It was enough to scare me off, but, there is a jeep club here in town, and there seems to be a shit ton of members in it. I've seen them do a Christmas drive where they stripped all the panels off their jeeps in the winter and covered them in Christmas lights, with some having a tree poking out the back must've been a good 60 jeeps participating

Quick update. The set of OE VW wheels I got fit just fine over the brakes so it's time to get the winter tires swapped from the wife's car to these wheels and prep the Accord for sale. I was nervous about them fitting over the brakes, factory wheels are 19" and the winter ones are 17", but everything seems to be fine. It'll definitely have a different look in the winter lol. Also, I found out that EVERY SINGLE BULB on the car is LED...except for the one single one in the hatch area. WTF? This will have to get swapped ASAP. Other than that, I'm planning on enjoying as is to keep the warranty intact. Might grab some Pretoria wheels in the future if I can find a good deal on a set.

The Pretorias look good, but poking around, I like the Rotary wheels a lot.

Oh don't get me wrong- it's a great car- one that is highly desirable these days- but really a one trick pony. Sam seems like the kind who wants his cars to be able to handle a number of scenarios... moving people, hauling room, offroading, just cruising, whatever. Though I wonder if he would be more inclined to keep it if he could use it every day of the year, in a nicer climate. But since he ain't leaving minnesnowta any time soon...
If it were nice out all year, I'd keep it. If I had room to store it and get a Wrangler, I'd keep it. It was bought in cash so the only cost is the incredibly basic maintenance, gas (low because don't drive much), and insurance (which is $30 for 6 months of the year) so the cost in keeping it is incredibly low. The biggest problem is that it just doesn't get driven anymore.
And no, I'm not leaving MN anytime soon.
Will be selling the wheels from the Accord and the half used tires, will more than likely recoup all of my money lol.
Not yet! My biggest problem with selling it is that I'll probably never be able to get another like (low mile, bone stock) it in the future. Once it's gone, it's gone and that's a pretty heavy thought.
I don't want a shit brown slow AF Audi.

A few of us at the local PCNA club (copycats) daily them and it's a great blend of practicality, comfort and performance. I just installed Uni's strage 2 tune with an Akrapovic systems and it's downright evil. I have to add that after owning the 6MT, I prefer the DSG. I do wish they'd have given us the roof that EU cars get but certainly not a deal breaker.

After riding in my first big turbo E85 Golf R a month back ... it made me partially regret going off the deep end with the Audi.
Traction is literally not an issue and it hooks, hard. Couldn't imagine launch control with DSG.

Congrats on the purchase! I would love to own another R, but the new ones are out of my budget. The new extended warranty sucks IMO. You don't want to wait that long to mod it. ECU/TCU tunes will totally change the car and make you wish you did it sooner. A local guy (15 R) ran 11.9 with APR stage 1 tunes and intercooler. He's running 11.7 with DP and stage 2 tunes. These cars are heartbreakers. I'm looking forward to your build.

Apparently this entire forum.It's the engineer in me though, there were thousands upon thousands of engineering hours that went into the tune of this car from the factory in order to get the best result. If VW could reliably get another 50hp with just a tune and nothing else without any issues, I'm sure they would have. There's a good reason for why not.
