When I purchased my 08 Si, I wasn't fluid with driving a stick. My dad owned a Jetta that was a manual at one point and tried to teach me. He pissed off and irate so that lesson ended quickly. Outside of that, my only experience came from Grand Turismo on PS2 and riding motorcycles. I understood the theory behind drivin stick and what not to do.
I got my SI home that night and practiced in a lot for 30 min. I've been fine every since. My clutch is great.

Heh heh, it really wasn't that bad. It didn't weigh that much, less than 3,000lbs. I think, and it was a REALLY wide ratio trans. Add to that the fact that we never drove it over 70mph because of the wind.....and if the top was up it felt like it was going to fly off.
I think we got @ 15 mpg with it or so (two barrel carb!), but much less when we were push-trucking sprint cars with it.

as much as I regret not having it, it was the right time to sell.

Good times- myself, it was a 1974 Ford F100, 3 in the tree - lol, our farm truck. I was maybe 12, had to stand up to get the clutch to go all the way in..
My first car was a Chevette, paid $125 bucks for it, certified ( well, as much as you had to do in 1987). I think I owned the first clutchless manual- as in a 4 speed with a broken clutch. I couldn't afford to fix it, so I would try to match my shifts with revs- ha-ha... I got pretty good at it, and at stop signs and lights, I would stop, shove it into first, and turn it off. Once it was time to go, I'd turn the key, it would turn over, shake violenty and would chug away and then take off. Those were good times..

I just learned to drive stick last summer on my girlfriends S-2000. Still the only manual tranny car I have driven but really enjoy it now. Thinking about making my next car a manual. Is an s-2000 considerd a more difficult car to drive stick on or about the same as the average car??

haha.. ok i guess i kinda lied. I had driven 2 MT cars prior to the Supra.. the 1st was an early 70's Beetle. the 2nd... was a '89 Acura Legend coupe. But I drove neither for prolonged periods of time.

Learned on my CRX HF, best car I've ever owned. If I were your dad I would definitely NOT have a starter put stress onto my Z06's clutch, but that's just my opinion. Good luck and for your and your family's sake, be safe in it. Prom night is supposed to be fun and the last thing anyone wants is for you to get hurt.

I drive a Subata.

learned with my friend's 06 Mustang GT when it was about 2 days old. I still clearly remember his facial expression when I stalled it 8 times in a row.
but, now I'm pretty good with it. switching gears without even thinking.
My next car is going to have a manual transmission for sure.

At first I really really wanted to learn and a few days in, I was like "wtf was I thinking" and I wondered if I really wanted to drive stick because I wasn't making progress, still stalled from a stop kinda often. Surprisingly my first time learning I only stalled once or twice driving around for 30+ mins. But I stuck with it and now I would NEVER go back to an automatic if I didn't have to. I'm a believer in that it makes you a better driver too.
I would show you, but you live waaaay too far.

There's a forum out there for manual transmission drivers... I think its standardshift.com
