ducs never do well at the track.. thats why Duc pulled their factory sponsorship out of the AMA. Shit they don't even fair well in MotoGP.. They did switch their focus to WSB (world superbike) circut. They knew they didnt stand a chance in the us against the "big 4" (suzuki, honda, kawi, yammy) Lol I read Roadracer X alot.

Good choice if you're looking into a Monster Of course, I'm biased though because I have an S2R 800. The monster is like freaking work of art, there are so many damn mods for it. There's a timeless classic look to them that will never go out of style. In the meantime, have fun with the EX 250. There will probably be haters who poke fun at it, but it's the best learner bike here in the states, aside from the new '08 version that Kawi recently introduced. Ride the hell out of it, then sell it on craigslist and put the money down on a Duc.

Oh, and whoever said that Ducatis don't do well on the track, they did WIN MotoGP last year by a substantial margin if I recall....

Cool, never rode a 250 but riding is still lots of fun. Stay safe out there. I wanted a 600RR so damn badly but I don't think I can afford insurance and payments on a bike.

Even practicing in an huge, empty parking lot I still wore a helmet and gloves.

Well, got my permit on Friday!! I also signed up for the MSF course which will be Jan. 18-20...

Then yesterday, my neighbor took me out and we went to the clubhouse parking lot in our community to work on some stuff. Started off with clutch walking, and by the end of my "lesson" was working on the "grab 2, stomp 2" with braking and downshifting. He even had me lock up the rear brake a few times to show me what happens, etc. It was really good and I learned a lot. Looking forward to learning more

And yes, wore my helmet and gloves as well as boots...

Awesome man!

I have been thinking a lot about getting another bike come Spring. I just don't think I could go without one. It'll suck having another monthly payment, but I know it will make me happy.

Congrats on the ride and doing it right. There is nothing wrong with a 250 and compared to most cars it will still be very fast. Be very careful and assume everyone with a car is trying to kill you. There are way to many people that do not pay attention when driving and as a motorcyclist you can pay the penalty for their mistakes. Practice braking a lot and make sure you use a lot of front brake.

Cool man, congrats. Yea, you'll find that unless you need to stop in a big hurry, you will never use your rear brake. Locking up the rear, then coming off the brake will cause you to "high side" if your in a turn. Like this (different circumstance, but same idea, loosing rear traction then suddenly regaining):

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KREIjnk6jTI&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KREIjnk6jTI&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Its also just plain physics. When you grab a handfull of front brake, the nose dives and all the weight shifts forward. This of course lightens the downforce or the rear wheel, and increases the chances of a lockup if you step on the rear brake.

FYI, finally got to take the MSF class this past weekend after the first one was canceled. Passed with flying colors (100% on the written, only 1 point off on the riding)!!

Now I just have to get to the DMV this week to get my license and register my bike

Congrats!

1 pt off on the riding??? What happened?

I somehow aced it even though I almost dropped the bike on the quick stop. I literally was 2 inches from the bike hitting the ground, but I called upon my inner strength and was able to pull the bike back up, hahaha. Everyone was like...how did he ace it when he almost dumped the bike???? hahaha.

^ I got robbed IMO

In the quick stop, when I "stomped" the gear shift to downshift to first, the bike only went to neutral (it was hard to find neutral on that bike the whole weekend... probably b/c it's abused). Nothing I could do about it...

Mine was very idiotic. I was so focused on trying to get the shortest stopping distance that I almost forgot to downshift to first...I literally thought of it right before I came to a stop, which made me all off balanced. I did get the shortest distance.

Glad the class went well. Good luck with the DMV. Not sure how the one out your way is, but the one in Albemarle isn't too far from you and usually never has a line.

I went to the top secret license renewal office last month, and it still took 45 minutes. Going to a regular office here (for anything, let alone two things)? That's masochistic.

Yeah, I'll do them on different days. The one I went to off of Tryon for the permit only took about an hour including testing time.... so not bad. All I need to do this time is give them my MSF card and my license, take a new pic and get a new license... so shouldn't be that bad (hopefully).

Then I'll do the registration separately...

Junior...you are a lucky man to have a track only 30 minutes away. I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to one...but I guess that's closer than most people. Once you do one track day, you won't want to ride fast on the roads again...just doesn't compare.

Thanks all. I am very excited. And with temps the next two days in the mid-70's, then the 60's late week, I'm trying to find time to register this thing

2005 model... 2200 miles. I've put 10 miles on it around the neighborhood and in parking lots since I got it

LOL. I wish. I'd be happy with an 848... or even the new Monster 696. Even the Hypermotard is sweet. We'll see. The Yamaha R6 really has my eye also... that thing is hot in yellow.

That's what my neighbor (who used to do track days at VIR when he lived in NJ) tells me. He said it's so much more fun to be in a controlled environment where you don't have to worry about cages or dogs or under maintained streets, etc. This track has beginner classes, so he keeps telling me he wants to take me there.

I'll definitely do it... but I need to register the bike first. One thing at a time.

Get comfortable on the bike and then you should take that bad boy to the track. You'll be a much, much better rider with one track day.

Nice.

I'm picking up an '07 CBR600RR this weekend. White/silver setup. First Honda bike for me. I hope I will like it.
