Unhappy Vancouver parking ticket w/ US car rental

Dilemma...went to Seattle and rented a car from Thrifty....I drove to Vancouver, BC and went to some Asian shopping center and didn't realize they had a 3 hour time limit for parking in the garage. Came out and got a ticket...doesn't look like it's from the city, but from a company called Imperial Parking Canada Corporation (impark.com).

Will they be trying to collect from the car rental agency? Thrifty did have me initialize a statement that my "credit card will be charged for all citations, penalties and toll road violations (including vioaltions captured by camera) plus a $25.00 admin fee per violation if not paid by original due date."

Granted, if I pay within 7 days, the ticket is only $40 or $69 after that.

I'm assuming this impark.com company does ticketing for private companies like malls and shopping centers.

Anyone know or have experienced this that can share what they did?

Thanks.

PS: If you must know, this was at the Aberdeen Centre in Richmond.

If it goes unpaid they will undoubtedly send notice to the registered owner, in this case Thrifty. Thrifty will pay it and charge you as they say in the rental agreement.

I'd send in a check and be done with it.

It will get back to you. I got an EZ-Pass ticket on a rental once (out of state) without knowing (I guess it didnt read my EZ-Pass correctly). About 3 weeks later I had a charge on my credit card and a letter in the mail from Alamo rental car explaining why they charged me.

+1 Pay it. I got one in the mail from a trip to London. You're lucky the admin fee is only $25.

You crossed the boarder baby, don't pay shit. Fucking Canucks can keep their platinum dipped money. Back in my day a canadian ticket for $200 was with a pack of juicy fruit.

Pay it or they will get you.

If it's only 40 bucks, I'd pay it... not worth the hassle of phone calls, paperwork etc if it gets ugly (especially since it's another country)...

Lol, Aberdeen Centre eh? I live near that area and go there pretty often for some mini RC car racing...

Anyways...my friend had a ticket there too, and from his experience, they will chase you down if you don't pay.

For some reason, parking lots in Canada, or at least in Vancouver are very strict against parking limit...

Yup. I think it was a total of $165 when all was said and done. They even e-mailed me pics of my "turn against the blue arrow."

What a pisser on that ticket.

First of all, I don't recall the signs being that noticeable....like on Granville Island, they were all over the place.

Second thing is that I took 2 other families with me, so that saved the mall 2 more parking spots for other "patrons".

Third, we probably spent like a few hundred bucks total while we were there giving business to the shops at the mall there.

Fourth, when I left, there were plenty of parking spaces around me, not like I was preventing other people from shopping there.

I did call Imperial Parking and got them to drop the fee down to $27CAN by explaining the things I just wrote. I guess I'll just do it or else I'll get charged down the road!

Thanks for the replies.

Yea, I think it's pretty stupid if you ask me. I play RC cars there and whenever I go, I'd stay there for 6 hours. So I'd have stop playing everytime and find another parking spot every 3 hours.

the one thing I DO NOT look forward to moving to Vancouver (if I ever do), is the parking... if it's in Richmond... (where all the Chinese markets/store/people are), parking isn't as bad... but downtown Vancouver is a bitch. Like most big cities... you gotta pay for parking every freakin' place you go I'm just not used to that

The website looks like its a private parking company. I'm curious on how exactly these rent-a-traffic cop agency works.

Do these companies have access to cross boundaries and borders like government authorities do?

When you get a ticket from the police. You know when you pay the ticket it goes to the state government. If you pay the ticket by Imperial Park, is it profit to them?

hey man I live in van.
from what I understand about impark is that they only have authority in their own lots. they get you if you use their lots again and they identify you. with a rental I think they are SOL. I won't gaurentee it, but I think you're fine.
