Valet Parking?
In DC, sometimes there are no options. So when forced to, yes, I allow them to valet it. However, at my old company, I was out with one of the VPs in his 550i and he valeted it while we were at a meeting. The valet clearly did not know how to drive stick because when he brought the car back up, you could smell the clutch burning. The VP tore the guy a new one and requested a refund (which he promptly got) for the parking fee.
i will only valet my car if it is absolutely necessary...
i used to work as a valet in college and we drove people's cars like we stole them...generally, the nicer the car, the harder we pushed it

guys... FWIW, I've worked valet before... obviously I can't speak for other valet companies but the one I worked for was very professional and well organized .. any exotic cars that pulled up would only be handled by the manager... and NO, the chances of a Ferrari being given to the wrong person would be ZERO... but then again... valet parking is like anything and everything else out there... I mean... you guys are paranoid about valet? You should be more worried about the people that handle your food at restaurants
So those of you that said no.. If you were on a date going to Mortons or somewhere.. you would still make your date get out with you at the parking garage 3 blocks away and make her walk?
Generally, no. There are very few situation where I would allow someone to park my car. I saw a bad experience with my parents car and it really put a bad taste in my mouth. I realize that it may be more the exception than the rule, but for the most part, negative on the valet.
Best valet story. Friend gives ticket to valet, valet comes back and asks "which is the ignition key?'. Friend points out the ignition key. Valet comes back and says it does not work. Friend tells valet they are not the keys to his car!
hmm.. really depends on the date, and how many dates youve been on.
i think chapelle said it best, "if a man could f* in a carborad box, he would. a man buys nice cars b/c he knows that women like nice cars"

I HATE valet parking... nothing but bad experiences... like one time in Vegas... we checked out and were leaving... valet guy goes to get car, but instead he comes back and tells me he can't find it. I'm like WTF? Took them like 20 min to find it.
Then there was the time at a restaurtant... I always leave my glovebox locked. As I'm driving home, I noticed the glovebox was unlocked.... guy looked through my car. Nothing was missing though, but still.
I try to avoid it. I'd rather walk.

I do it when it's pretty much required (like at dinner Saturday night).
I drive a '03 CL-S with 109k miles on it or a '02 Isuzu Rodeo with 90k miles on it. They aren't exactly supercars...

i work valet at nights and weekends mostly because i make at least 200 cash a night extra lol but its at an upper class steakhouse... most people dont give a problem... ive driven every car and super car imaginable, porsches, ferraris, lambos, bentleys, rolls royces, astons, you name it, ive driven it... most of the people have so much money they barely know what they are driving or how to even drive it... the amount of clutches ive seen been rode harder then a prostitute is sickening.. but anyways if you guys really prefer not valeting, just throw the guy a 10 and ask him where to put it... works out best for both of you... most of the time youll get a great spot and the valet wont have to do jack so they dont mind...
I've seen numerous instances where valet driver totally destroyed nice sets of wheels without even flinching. My friends and I were in pain as we watched the rims grind against the side walk (KKKKKKKKKKKKKKRRRRRRRRRRR).
I've dealt with valet companies so many times when I was an insurance adjuster 5 years ago. They always claim that the damage was already there and it wasn't their fault. The usual bullshit excuses. I hate them.
The only time I would valet is when I absolutely have no choice.

Sorry.
It's just a personal thing. I take extreme pride in taking care of my car. I've seen the value of that as well when my parents have been able to sell their previous cars for very good prices because they took such good care of their vehicles. I don't want some punk ass scrapin up my car or doing something stupid.
And mrsteve, even someone with an older car, I can still understand them not wanting anyone to touch if. If they have taken immaculate care of their car it's whole life, there's no reason the car shouldn't look darn near the same as the day it was delivered, and I understand wanting to keep it that way. It doesn't bother me one bit people who could care less about their cars and any dings/scratches it may get, just don't carry that disregard out on to my car. A reason I park out in Timbuktu all the time.

^^^I normally park far away myself... especially grocery stores with them damn carts... but for those of you that are saying shit like... "who gives a fuck about your dates..." when in such situation you would make your date walk? C'mon... please, get over yourself (and your car)
So, lets just say this weekend if you go out to dinner and the restaurant had valet parking. You get your car back with a curbed rim, and scratched bumper, and fender how are you going to react when the Valet tells you it was already there or they arent responsible for any damages?
you guys totally exaggerate... in the past... I valet all the time, and never had any problems... but it's probably the ghetto places where they hire a bunch of losers that you guys are going that's causing all these problems... if you go to a classy place the valet is well organized and professional

One time we went to a mid to high end restaurant and they severely curbed my moms car and in the meantime got it stuck between to other cars with literally only a couple inches on either side, and when they finally got it back around, the attendants were complete assholes.

@ some of you who said you're too cheap to use valet. I thought I was the only one! LOL
