Call your insurance agent or call the the NY DMV (RMV or whatever you guys call it over there)...
Someone should be able to tell you if NY offers the sales tax discount on private sales...

Unless he wanna go through the hassle selling the car privately.. otherwise it is expected to get RAPED when he trades in his car......
It s like they either give u a VERY GOOD price for the trade in and a very high price on the G35C
OR
A very fucked up price for the trade in and a very low price for the G35c
Doesnt make any difference technically but a lot of ppl dont realize that....
I think if people actually realized how much money they're tossing in the toilet when they trade in a car they would probably never do it. If they had the cash in their hands for example...2k$ is worth quite a bit of hassle.Originally Posted by oonowindoo

but often ppl forget the tax savings that they get from trading in a car (assuming the private sales tax saving things that GreenMonster mentioned doesn't exist-which I didn't know about until he told us).... That tax savings is, in most cases, enough to offset the price between trade-in and private sales... see the calculations in my previous post.
I've had enough car shopping in the past to know most of the tricks that the dealers play... but the tax savings is one thing a lot of ppl tend to neglect.
