used 97 Lotus Esprit..opinions?
i found a white 97 esprit in nearly new condition and low miles for 36k (not the v8 version). Any idea how much it would cost to insure this thing...or how often they break down? I know it's no honda... but for that price and considering i wouldnt use it as a daily driver i'm tempted to grab one unless the TCO is too high (insurance+maintenance).

Like any supercar, the maintence and insurance are gonna be crazy.
There is a really good website you might want to check out.
http://www.espritfactfile.com
Also consider the location of your closest dealer for repairs. We have one here in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Although I've only ever seen 3 or 4 on the road around here and I've lived here all my life.

Maintenance will be a bitch.
There was a kid in my college with one a few years back. He loved the car, and it definitely was very nice looking, but he had to get rid of it due to costly repairs.
Would you be looking to replace your Z with this car?

Cool car......but definitely pricey to maintain and not the most reliable thing on the road (but its a toy). Remember, 97 was the first year for the V8.
I would check out Bimmer.org's Lotus forum, the owner of the site (Alan) has a 2002 Lotus Esprit and there are a number of other owners that hang out on there. Not a fast moving forum, but if you post I'm sure you'll get a few replies at the least.

thanks for the info . i'm really not 'looking' to get rid of the z but it's pretty much always been my dream to own an exotic so i keep thinking about the lotus because it's really affordable to buy...sounds like it's not affordable to own though. i'll check out those links.
