After hearing about my buddy's 5.0 woes, I'd personally probably go Camaro SS.

Did he have a tune of any kind/mods? Is Ford giving him a run around or are the honoring the warranty?

Is he on any of the Mustang forums?

It sacred me away too. But according to the NTSHA investigation there were only like 360 cars affected. So they closed their investigation. When the MT82 works properly it is supposed to be fantastic...perfect ratios and butter smooth.

I'm not sure if he's on any Mustang forums. Ford actually sent a specialist to study his blown engine and once they did they replaced the long block no questions asked at no cost. The only mods he has is an exhaust with X-pipe and he ordered it from Ford with 3.73 gears.

Oh yeah...the GT500 is awesome....Big bucks though. The 2013 is going to be a beast. Ford actually had to "detune" its gearing to help get the power down.

Glad to hear that he is being taken care of. There are just so many horror stories about Ford Service/warranty service.

How so? I think it often depends on your automotive perspective. I've heard of every manufacturer having "horror" stories, yet most of the them come from unsatisfied owners that screwed up their own cars or owners of cars from other manufacturers.

For the record, throughout the years of having Ford trucks for corporate use and cars for personal transportation, I have never been refused a warranty claim or had a problem with service. Decades and many vehicles later, there has only been two incidents where the warranty repair had to be performed over again.

I'm just glad Detroit got it's design mojo back and produced the retro Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang. The result is a reinvigorated pride in good ole' fashion American muscle. I'd take either in this order.

GT500
ZL1
SRT-8

Do you know what I would love to see?

A Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger at the other end of the spectrum. A pony car with a V8 of moderate displacement and horsepower, unencumbered by cartoonish wheels, spoilers and body additions that do nothing, electronic gizmos that everyone thinks they need, and interiors that are far more luxurious than they need to be.

Give me suspension, brakes, the aforementioned engine, ABS, defeatable traction control, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and an interior that doesn't have 300 pounds of crap I'll use once. Unfortunately it won't happen, however, as long as people continue to pay their monthly so they can brag about performance they will never use. Don't get me wrong, I like the new Shelby and ZL1, but a lighter, more practical car with performance you can actually use can be just as entertaining.

Yep. Most everything is functional (except maybe that quad exhaust system). Get rid of the horrible stripes, maybe delete the rear seat without having to go the LS, and drop a few interior comforts.

Don't get me wrong, I like luxury combined with performance as much as anyone, but I still think a ponycar with more realistic features is truer to the original form. During the sixties it was often the lighter, small block cars that were dominant on road courses and other race tracks.

It's good that he is on that forum. I'm on another Mustang forum, and it seems any time anyone has an issue, the fanboys come out to blame the owner for the problems.

I hope your friend gets satisfaction. It's ridiculous that he is making payments on an un-drivable car. No matter what happens he is going to lose out. Even if he get a lemon law settlement he still loses. If they finally "fix" his car he will certainly take a reduced value hit. If he trades it in...well he might as well bend over.

Such an effing shame! This stuff drives me crazy! Ford should give him a new replacement Mustang immediately, at the amortized value of his current car.

Keep us posted.
