They are using a bunch of regular cars these days. I was down in MD & saw a regular looking new Mustang pulling someone over.

Wouldn't people be hesitant to stop if one pulled you over?

regular american cars are pretty common... but regular German cars...

Used to be if I saw HID Projectors in my mirror, I didn't have to worry.

i don't know. if someone were trying to pull me over even in that, i would think it's just anyone with lights trying to fuck me over.

Cops are too nice. If someone has hostages you kill them, you don't try to talk them down. If some prick is running from the police you shoot them, you don't make them drive faster.

That said, when I was looking into a possible FX to replace the van, a guy on those message boards was a cop and though it was his own personal car, he had lights and siren on his FX.

Also, volunteer firefighters I believe are are allowed to put strobes in their vehicles.

Saw a completely undercover Dodge Intrepid on 95 in MA today with someone pulled over.

That said, I still feel pretty confident that it'll be a loooooong time before I see anything German with blues on it in my neck of the woods.

Here in MD, we have not only new Mustangs, but we also have old Camaros and new Dodge Chargers as cop cars. And the rather few unlucky minivan's as undercovers.

Yep I saw that also. NYC yellow cab, on the Belt Parkway at night. I was in the middle lane doing 60, the cab matched my speed next to me, I glance over & it was a fully uniformed police officer. He then passed me & his lights/siren came on & he pulled over a car up ahead.

I was warned by friends that they had a few NYC cabs they were using.
Also same night, I saw about 4-5 officers get out of a Ford Windstar van. Fully loaded with lights.

That is exactly why I think unmarked/undercover cars are wrong and shouldn't be legal. You never know who is trying to screw with you. I've heard of many cases in/around NYC about fake cops pulling people over, especially women, and then being assaulted.

That is why you don't have to immediately pull over for an undercover car.

you dont have to pull over right away but you are supposed to call the local police station and ask if you are actually being asked to pll over. officers are supposed to call in your lisence plate number before they pull you over. thats what i was told by an officer i know.

If I saw this thing in my rear view signaling me to pull over, I'd laugh... then I would proceed to re-engage cruise control at 90 MPH and watch as it tries in vain to keep up.

I've heard that too, or you can just drive to the nearest station if you know where it is. However, what if you aren't in your own town, or a town you aren't familiar with, and don't know the phone number or location of the station? What if you don't have your cell phone on you to call? As a female, I would not be inclined to stop for an undercover car, I'd be too nervous.

thats how this whole thing came up. i think a couple years ago some guy was pretending to be an undercover cop and pulling over women and raping them. and i have no answers to your questions i've asked the same questions before.

I've seen some questionable cars out there on the roads. Even my car with the lights & siren is questionable, which is why I could never use it to pull anyone over even if I was allowed to. In fact My volunteer stint is over so the lights are now off my car.
Any traffic judge or cop I've spoken to has told me when in doubt call 911 & confirm the car is real, or if you have to pull over wait until you get to a well lit public area.
If you don't stop the unmarked should radio for a backup car & that should be marked then you know it's the real deal.

I agree with that 100% all cop cars i have seen have been american. I think whosever in charge of buying the cars in america wants to support america and just wont by forgein cars.

I also agree that unmarked cars shouldnt be allowed.

we all say that we hate unmarked cars but if you were a cop you would love to have an unmarked car. they are possibly the greatest things around. i've been in one it was a charger and it was by choice i did not get arrested. but i've seen tons of unmarks around NY from Acura to Lexus. when i say unmarked i dont mean like an issued unmarked car i mean like your own personal car all done up with lights and everything like undercover cop stuff.
