I drive a no catless Trans Am in NY. The fbods/vettes can have the cats tuned out, so that no check engine light comes on, but the computer still tells the scanner that the cats are there and functioning. Thats one reason why i love this car.

That sucks, luckily my car looks stock as hell and even then all the parts on my car are 50 state legal.

But my good friend's 3000gt vr-4 running w/o a cat might be in trouble.

It is still pretty easy to defeat. Visual inspections are pretty much a joke, people only care if it blows clean. If you know how to weld and dont mind hacking up the system, buy a universal CA obd2 cat for a 5.7L chevy and install that just for your test. I used to do that with the jdm type r motors.

My greatest creation involved a little more work. I cut open a flowmaster muffler (you can use any type as long as it is big enough) and then took a small calalytic converter and welded it inside the muffler, connect the inlet and outlet pipes to the cat. I welded the top back onto the muffler, ground the welds down till it was smooth, and painted the muffler. Huge pain in the ass but that extra cat dropped teh numbers down enough.
