Ugh ... low blow.

Another consultant came in today to help solve a problem we're having with some proprietary software the company I am doing work for bought. Anyway, lunch came around a few of us went to go get a bite.

Anyway I work in a real uppity party of town, North Scottsdale. And we're talking about cars and such and the new consultant says my last 3 cars have been Acuras: Legend, TL, MDX and now I have a GS. The problem with Acura is that they don't have enough panache behind the brand. They're nice cars, but they scream I like BMWs, but couldn't afford to get one.

The sad part is I've gotten just as many compliments on the Acura TL as I have with the Boxster. I like the car, its comfy it has everything I need, but in such a brand sensitive environment I've been second guessing myself on the purchase a lot lately. It's not helping that Honda doesn't seem to be doing shit to bring any sort of excitement to the brand.

Well if she brings it up again mention the fact that there are acuras out there that are more expensive the a few BMWs. In my opinion if your going to get the lexus just because its the lexus thats stupid. Get the car you really like.

No, no the consultant used to own Acuras. Now he drives a Lexus. I've been driving a 3rd gen TL for almost 2 years. It just hurt to hear someone say that about the brand I drive. Maybe I've lived in Scottsdale too long, but brands seem to be a big thing here.

I bought the car because I was tired of my German engineered problem-o-matic.

Who gives a shit about what someone else thinks of the brand of car you drive? If you are that worried, you have much bigger problems to worry about then the brand of car you drive.

Who gives a fuck?

Honestly, if the consultant is that shallow that they would buy a car based purely on its brand perception, then they have deeper issues to worry about. And if you let something like that affect you, then maybe you have deeper issues to worry about than what car you drive.

around here, it's very hard to impress anyone... but when I had the TL-S, that so many people thought was just another Honda... I felt good to gun it off the light and beat some idiot in his/her E350 or 530... and at the next light... when they pull, I'll look at them... and in a none verbal way... I let'em know... "You just got OWNED by a 'Honda'..."

Any idea how often people tell me that Audi arent reliable or they are just VWs.

Those comments never bothered me actually. Then again i think VWs are nice.

Yeah, I know, I know, but as a single male living in a very brand conscious environment sometimes it can takes it toll.

You all posted what I hoped to hear, but every now and then being in this environment it can get me thinking about it.

So wait, who said this, you or the consultant?

And saying that is like saying BMW's scream I like Porsches, but couldnt afford to get one. Someone's always going to have a more expensive car no matter what you have.

This is a very very had comparo. The RL competes with the 530ix. TL is more than the 3 less than the 5. The TSX is much less than a 3. IF I had to compare I would say the 330i is more on the TL level. SUV you got them right on.

Ask the consultant if he makes a lot of his decisions based off looks, a high price, and prestige rather than value, features, and cost savings.

the 3 series is an entry level sedan which is exactly the same thing the tsx is. also the overall dimensions of the cars are relatively close together which is why i grouped them the way i did. RL=flagship, 7 series=flagship.

If that hurt you, then you are an idiot. Who buys a car based on what compliments he thinks he will get? On another note, I got alot more compliments in my TL than my MB Eclasse

There will always be someone that thinks they have bigger and better things, dewelling on that all the time is a stupid thing to do. Enjoy the car you have, (if you like it) and dont worry about what people say......

Maybe the OP should tell the consultant's wife that he made his decision by that.

Perhaps it's time for a change of scenery. You know, people who walk around like they're all that usually aren't. People who have to flaunt their stuff have nothing of substance to offer the world, so they wrap themselves in material things in the mistaken belief they are better than everyone else. How pathetic.

I think the TL is an excellent value for all the features and luxury it provides. Besides, the point is that he should have fun with the consultant by implying if he makes such descisions about his cars, he might also be making those kinds of decisions at work.
