Tyler's Wannabe 1M Build & Update Thread
Wife and I were talking about this the other night after the kids went to bed. I could move out of state easily, so could she, but the kids are a different story. The bond they have with their Nana and Papa would be too hard on them at 2 and 4. I couldn't do it to our kids unless we absolutely had too.

Car is gone.
I did a lot of thinking and considering the average B5 S4 ownership is 50/50 good & bad .. I would say I had it 80/20.
The beginning was fight or flight - 3 motor pulls for Stage 3 and I recall questioning my sanity .. many many times. Wife hated the car, too.
As time went on, the dust settled and it was an unmatched ownership experience - It taught me most of what I know about automotive / mechanics, pushed my DIY endeavors, made me dozens of friends over the years, made unforgettable memories, and pissed on a lot of muscle car ego.
Sounds soppy saying this but, I felt like the car was apart of me and getting a stack of cash in my hand for that whole ownership experience was super reductionist - ALL of that, for this?
Oh well - car went to a good home and I know the next few years I'll be thanking myself.

Sad to see the car go. The most important thing is family, and taking care of them should come first.
I just moved from Colorado. State income tax is ~3.6% of AGI, so that's not bad. Property tax is reasonable as well. But for cars, they have an ownership tax. Anything new is going to be sales price plus sales tax (~8-9%), then ownership tax until the car is 10 years old. They prorate based on the value when new, so it goes down over time. Once your at 10 years old or older, ~$75 / year to register. And smog testing is a thing in the greater Denver area.

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words.
Quick update - The house we were hoping for won't be available for awhile (was hoping not to involve realtors / it would be an owner to owner sale) so we're setting our sights on different homes in the San Diego area - plan is unchanged, get our current residence ready to be a rental and move east San Diego county.
Current criteria is at least a half acre, 2000sq/ft.
Things could be moving quickly in the next few months, assuming the house & cost basis makes sense.
Getting excited!

A house is a hell of a boat anchor, though!

I have 1 older neighbor across the street who has a Scion XA with an overly sensitive car alarm - any time I'd drive by, alarm would go off.
I'm doing my part!

V10 TDI Toureg is definitely the kind of punishment I could see Tyler going for. There is a service that requires engine and trans removal or body removal so that seems fitting.

As much as a V10 TDI sounds fun, I am really getting into the mindset of minimalist work / mods nowadays
. - In my mid 20s I would be all about it.
Right now, we're in escrow and the planned move in date is 5/14
- things moved crazy crazy fast.
As for vehicles, the Cayenne has been treating me good (knock on wood) I turned the key probably 30 times this weekend with Home Depot runs, dump runs, and making good use of my new-to-me utility trailer.
I have a laundry list of projects to do at my new house and while it is fun to dream of what's next, I'm only torturing myself.
Once the projects are done, I'm strongly considering a stock / untouched E55 AMG to keep me occupied ... RS7 is still on the list at a later time.

It's a tough call.
E55 pros:
E55 cons:
What it comes down to is saving & patience or if the Cayenne shits the bed
.
I'm a year or two out for an RS7 minimum.
E55 pros:
- Half the cost for a stupid clean example.
- Parts are cheaper
- It's sleeper status is phenomenal
- Much simpler car ($50 hand scanner can do all adaptions / resets etc).
- Tags are 1/3rd of the cost
- Insurance is 1/2 the cost
- Much easier to work on
- Burnouts
E55 cons:
- Ancient transmission (can be "fixed" with a valve body upgrade)
- Older tech
- Slower but not by much
- Tougher to get more horsepower due to cooling
- MPG is considerably worst compared to the RS7

An S8 would be an awesome option as well. The same gen from Transporter. The E55 definitely are not terribly unreliable, but a friends experience in multiple models of AMG cars has put me off on them a bit. The wagon would be awesome but you are almost in RS7 price range at that point.

Black on black, too

I'm sure he'd take $16k for it.

I really like the idea of the S8 but it would have to be 4.0T. The 2013 examples are cheap but the dimensions are too bulky .. much prefer the S6 but, no ZF8 transmission
.S6s are very affordable, though.

03-06.

RS7 is my #1 choice - I'm looking for under 70k miles with diamond stitched seats in any color but gray - my options are limiting me to a car that will cost just about 40k.
E55 seems like way more car for the money
.
LOL
ahhh come on, just get a little loan, banks are your friend!
