Crazy, this guy knows a way of replacing motormounts in about 1 1/2 hours. It involves removing the sway bar, loosening the bolts connecting to the motormount brackets just enough to wiggle them out.

Shops charge 10+ hours because according to the handbook, it involves dropping the subframe + realignment ... yet some do the shortcuts and still charge you 10+ hours labor.

I was at the gym on Thursday night and another Laser Red B5 S4 decided to park next to me. Not the cleanest example, but hey .. at least it's running?

S* by Tyler Tennille, on Flickr

I took this picture and I liked it ... then I saw how badly I need to detail the S4

Resident detailers; any recommendations on good polishing compounds?

^ I think the blue Audi's have soft paint. I'd start with megs 105 on an orange pad and go light pressure and slow. Finish with 205 on black pad and sealant over the top.

Your pics are getting pretty good now. Makes me want to go shoot more but alas I cannot.

You put a cover on in the garage, T?
+1 on Megs 105/205 orange/white combo...it's tried and true and you can't go wrong.

Thanks Sam! Appreciate the suggestions, I've only heard good things about Meguiars.

It was mostly just for show and to save space in the garage cabinets, now I kinda like it keeping it covered.

I'll take the cover if you don't want it. Mine sits uncovered for 6 months so it gets rather dusty...

Dude, I'm trying to find any excuse to go back to Tijuana soon. The weather here is absolutely brutal this week. The temp when leaving home this morning was -10F with a windchill of -23F. The high on Sunday is -8F before windchill.

The upside is that next week is back into the 20's and low 30's.

Yup! And it's even lower because I don't really want to go outside to go anywhere.

Also, remote start is a god send. I'm going to miss that if/when I buy an RS.

I haven't detailed the Audi yet, but the paint seems to have held up pretty good over the last 15 years with the exception of a few clearcoat spots on the roof and the color fade.

Funny, I bought an E46 rep lip spoiler off Amazon and painted it Nogaro Blue .. the colors are very different .. so much in fact, I thought they sent me the wrong paint

I have a Honda and a VAG, you also have a Honda and a VAG. Does this mean I can be as cool as you one day?

Seriously though, this thread is fun to follow Glad to hear you are enjoying the S4.

Great idea, I'll definitely bring the camera up!

Snow.

Mounting a used set of Blizzaks on my spare set of wheels and heading up to the mountains for New Years.

I kinda jumped the gun on these ... 245/40/18 on 18x8.5 ET35 wheels WILL rub in the front, so I will have to do some minor fender rolling tomorrow. The Mr. Brightside in me says meh, I'll just add spacers to my regular setup when we're back .

I started doing this with the TSX. It only gets driven on sunny days so it collects most of its dirt from just sitting in the garage honestly. Now I don't have to dust it off before driving it. So I think it is a good idea.

Thanks

And agreed, the B5 body style is something I've always enjoyed looking at over the years and I think for what they are, they've aged well.

The way you see my car is pretty much the way I'm keeping it - OEM+ wheels, slight drop, lip spoiler .. only thing left at this point is vinyl wrapping the roof & tintz

Once my bank account heals a bit from the holidays, I'll be on the lookout for some turbskies..

They are actually X-Ice lol.

I had them on my BMW, solid tires. Not as good in deep snow as the blizzaks but far better on open roads. They are much less "squishy" feeling.

Welp, I didn't end up taking the S4 to Mammoth mountain after all.

Long story short and a very important lesson to learn: Do NOT believe in everything you read on the internet

I knew 245/40/18 on 8.5" ET35 would be a really tight fit for the B5 S4 and from what I've read, it will fit .. just needs minor fender adjustments. What I didn't realize is it wouldn't fit at all .

Fronts went on okay with minimal fender pulling, although .. rears were not so lucky. The moment I mounted the first rear wheel, I noticed the inner edge of the tire hitting the upper control arm and at this point .. I was ready to throw in the towel until I sourced some 5mm spacers.

After some further adjustments, they fit right up with only a few mm to spare. Little rubbing here and there, but nothing terrible.

At this point, I thought the car was ready after doing a brief test drive. We loaded up the next morning were on our way ... only to turn home and borrow my GFs (Now Fiance ) Mom's Subaru Crosstrek.

Reasoning? The wheel balance was so bad (triple checked the lugs) that I couldn't get over 50-60mph without any major vibration through the steering wheel. I wasn't about to drive 250+ miles like that and decided it was best to turn back .

But hey, this trip was not about the S4 or testing Quattro .. it was about asking my girl to marry me.

TL;DR: Didn't take S4, proposed, butt secks.

Congrats bro! So I take it she said yes? Now you get to pour car mod money and S4 maintenance cash into the massive ripoff that is a wedding.

She said yes indeed ... why? Not a fucking clue.

We'll see, a small wedding is in order. Turbos will on before the wedding ... mark my words
