I don't think 450 can buy you anything unless it's someone desperate (i.e. Tyrone Biggums-desperate) you're getting it from a family member.

You ever actually look for cars on craigslist?

If you want a bucket, sure. And yeah, you may get a steal like that once in a while.... but it's pretty rare.

I actually checked craigslist, in my area (SF Bay) the only thing that comes up pertaining to the XR4Ti or even Merkur (shaving products aside) is its turbocharged longblock ($1,200) or its automatic transmission for $350

haha no... well maybe OP found one with some luck haha. But still an 80s car for 4500... that was my main point.

I did find a 91 camaro for 950. Not too bad haha

As for the XR4Ti, I'm probably one of the few on this board who's driven one when it was brand new, albeit a single spoilered 88-89 model. (showing my age now ) @ $34k, it was one pricey Ford. ...I still have the brochure too!

I'm testing driving a pretty good example of what I have in mind this afternoon, it's located in La Jolla.

I'll give a few more hints .. it has limited slip differential and the manufacturer is not Japanese.

E30 M3? Would that ever be fun.

He said the car originated in the 1980s, not that the car itself is necessarily made in the 80s.

Not a Fiero?

If it's truly an 80s car, you should complete the look with a perm and a wicked mustache.

Edit: IROC Z. You have to have a wicked 'stache to drive one of those.

Hey guys,

So, as many of you know .. I totaled my Accord roughly 2 weeks ago and have been on quite a rollercoaster ride finding a new car.

I've thrown around the idea of financing something that's around $16 - $18k but I quickly realized throwing myself in that kind of debt is not what I wanted. I got the idea of shopping around for cars in the 4-6k range .. but found nothing but garbage with sketchy owners trying to tell me what the car is when it clearly wasn't .. I test drove anything from E30 BMW 325is, 240SX, 2000ish Mustang GTs, few older Civics & Accords and I gave up on the whole 4-6k price range.

I was searching for cars on Autotrader and found a beautiful one owner 2005 Altima SE-R 6MT w/ 90k miles. Car is located about 5 miles away from me with no dings, no rips, scratches, everything cosmetic is in perfect condition. Everything works, just needs 2 new front tires and maybe a slight alignment. I can tell it was garage kept and really taken care of judging by the condition of the car and having all service receipts.

After agreeing on a price of $11,500, I couldn't resist and put a deposit down. If all goes as planned, I pick it up tomorrow at 10am.

Has:

Mossy exhaust, lightweight flywheel & new clutch, Nismo suspension & wheels and he's throwing in an extra set of SE-R wheels & Nismo Intake.

My very first VQ35

Whoa, congrats! That's a great looking car.

You'll have a blast with the low-end torque from the VQ engine. Be safe

Thanks guys! I picked up the car no more than an hour ago and I'm already in love. It's definitely a nice change not having a loud exhaust, hard motor mounts and the tire roar of track tires.

Knowing the destructive nature of my checking account, I'm sure we'll be seeing more mods soon, stay tuned .

The car is tastefully modded as is, I think it'll keep me occupied for awhile.

Congrats! I've considered one of those, too, particularly since I like the idea of stealthy performance. I will take a wild stab and say that it's not the 80s-born, non-Japanese built, rear wheel drive car with a limited slip we were guessing. In any case, it looks like you found an affordable-to-maintain performance car that hasn't been hooned to death or hack modded. That is rare.

Nice car! If well kept, the VQ engines are solid! Look out for engine mounts, power steering leaks.

I went through the car's stack of maintenance records and found a dyno sheet!

He said he dynoed the car on 2 different occasions with the highest numbers produced being with the Mossy catback & Nismo Intake. Is the car really making 241wtq and 229whp? I thought the numbers would be swapped around.

Thanks for the kind words everybody, loving the car more and more as I drive it.
