Looks great so far. I like the exhaust manifolds.

Can you post a pic of how low the starter solenoid hangs compared to the rest of the frame? Im a bit nervous with how low it appears.

What are you doing about the rear end? Stock AP1? There is a company out of Texas (I forget their name, but can find it) that does Ford 8.8" IRS conversions.

I will try and find some time to get a picture of the starter for you. As for the rear end, it's a stock ap1 with a rx-7 ring and pinion (3.64). If I have troubles with it I will most likely go to the r200 kit or ford 8.8 with my own mounts. BTW, Full Blown has the 8.8 and Inline pro has the r200.

Hope you have intentions to make this a drag car because the weight balance and that 9000 RPM redline is gone.

someone said that the weight difference between the engines is not that different, and you don't need 9000rpm when you have torque

The weight difference between the two engines is about 50lbs from what I can recall, but the OP may have a more accurate number. We had this discussion recently in the S2k thread.

One of the other points brought up is that the engine sits closer to the firewall then the F does since it isnt as long.

The j32a2 longblock was 59lbs heavier the the f20c longblock. Plus all the turbo related stuff I expect the total increase to be no more the 150lbs; hopefully closer to 125. The J32 is almost the same length as the f20c.The crank pulley sits pretty close to the OEM spot.

As for weight distribution, I corner scaled the car before I pulled it apart so I'll have a "before and after" corner weight for everyone when its done.

Here's the car on the scales. Bone stock, no driver, Full tank of gas, top down, and the OEM top cover. Front to back should be accurate, but left to right might be alittle off from the wreck.

You guys mixed up the driver rear and passenger rear scale

I figured before clicking that the weight distribution would be fine but I'm unfamiliar with how the well the AP1/AP2 puts extra power to the ground. How will you cope with this?

I've scaled alot of cars and most look like this. Ususally opposite corners will act similiar, but I'll double check the scale today.

Cope with power? Do you mean drivetrain components? S2000 tranny, driveline, diff, and axles are known to handle a good amount of power. There are alor of guys make over 600hp on the f20 and f22, but they don't make any torque. Only time will tell how it does, but IMO it should be fine for what I'm doing with it. Its not like this car will ever be tracked or go down the drag strip.

Nice job.

Would love to hybrid up my J32A2 TLS and my AP2, but for now they have to be neighbors in the garage.

Props to you for making the S2000 that Honda should consider for a next roadster

Sorry, but you were wrong. I double checked the scale colors this morning and I DID NOT mix them up. The numbers on the screen are correct.

From my understanding ap1 differentials don't do so well with high torque launches. Do you plan on switching to an ap2 pumpkin?

By putting power to the ground I meant traction, sorry.

My bad, it's been a while since I put a car on the scales, only did it a few times. Not trying to attack you or anything.... thanks a lot for sharing, I only wish I could do a project like this.

If I replace the ap1 rear end it will either be with a ford 8.8 or r200.

Traction solution is just some nice big tires for now. I didnt think you were attacking me. I had to double check after you said something. No worries

almost perfect 50/50 balance amazing. I wouldn't have thought that. you have better balance than a 350z. This thing must feel like a lightweight 350z with slightly better handling already.

A swap like this for the S2000 should get magazine recognition.

Is the J32A2 the CL / TL Type-S motor? I can't remember

I used to have a 2003 MT CLS and I can't imagine that powertrain in an S2000, and no less, one that's turbocharged.

I'm curious, if one was to just do the engine swap, say, from a 6psd 2003 CLS to a 2003 S2000 and keep the motor stock, would you be able to use all Honda parts or would you need aftermarket engine management?

Excellent project and writeup.

Yes, you could run a stock j32a2 with the factory ecu. No different then a swap in a civic. It would have to be an engine out if a automatic and auto ecu because you're gonna lose the crank sensor on the flywheel with the s2000 tranny. Also, the intake must be flipped so you'll need to flip the lower runner as well and plumb your own EGR. Everything else is just wiring and plumbing. The stock ecu and piggy back was my original idea, but I quickly changed my mind and felt a stand-alone was the best option. It allowed for full tuning and which inputs and outputs I wanted. I just felt it was the right way to go with everything going on.

Are you going to wire the gauge cluster to function like stock?

The AP1 S2k isn't a canbus setup, is it?

The cluster will be a bit tricky, but I think I can get it to work. The Haltech has a S2000 coolant output and tach, MPH from the factor ECU (if I keep it), Most indicator and fuel are still in the car. If I run into issues I will just put a Race Technologies dash in it.

There have been a few J series motors swapped into S2000s.

BTW, found some updates to this build. Unfortunately the last one was from May.

Made some progress. I will have lots of updates coming as I plan to have the car running by this Thursday.
ABS deleted and new brake lines

ARP headstuds and new headgaskets

Machined cam gear to have only one home tooth

Almost ready to go back in

Notched and boxed in subframe for oil filter and downpipe locations

Mounts back from powdercoat and reassembled

Installed with heat shield

Back in its home for the final time
