TSX powered Lotus Elise 300whp NA 1800lbs

i have been reading on here a bit about what you guys had to say about joe mccarthy and i thought id join and talk about my car.
i have a 2006 lotus elise and i just recently had a k24 installed in my lotus using the kit from prototype racing and joe mccarthy. the kit was hand built by joe and is just amazing, he did great work. here is a video of my lotus on the dyno. we got 278 whp and 205 tq on pump gas(mustang dyno numbers). the car is amazing, it easily can spin the tires in third gear. we plan to switch over to E85 and tune it to get over our 300whp goal.

Sweet ride! I can only imagine how fun it's gotta be.

For pictures, go on flickr or photobucket, upload your pics there and copy the IMG code on here.

Nice. I saw an exige on a dyno that was putting out in the realm of 400whp (cant remember the exact number) while picking up a friends car from the shop.

Nice! I didn't know they could milk that much power out of the stock TSX engine, though that's probably because I don't see many people doing it... guess I haven't been looking hard enough. I think your only option now is to go S/C

So much win in this thread. So much win....

I LOVE Maseratis.
The Caterham 7 is a sweet little car, too.
A TSX-powered Elise? Can't wait to see the video of that on the road sometime.

as to what we did to the motor, its sleeved, skunk2 intake manifold, IPS K10 cams, pretty sure it has a 13.5 compression ratio, ported k20a head, and the build and tune was done by RS Motors in MN.

Those numbers aren't that crazy, he probably has Stg. III cams, Hondata Flashpro, K24 block with 12:1 CR, Intake, RRC Intake Manifold, 80mm TB, P&P head, Race Headers and Exhaust. That power output is consistent with many built K24 NA motors.

Although, not sure how an E85 tune increases power output on a non-FI car.

By the way nice Lotus!

You can see the Vtec engagement point on the graph, that must feel awesome when it switches over like that. What a huge difference in power, and I noticed you've got the front splitter as well, very nice.

First off that is an amazing machine. Do you have any idea of the weight difference and weight distribution between the stock car and what you've created? I'm really curious what it could do in the hands of a test driver compared to what it could do when it was stock. The magic of the Elise was in the balance and I'm very curious what happened to that. On paper it looks like it could eat up a Cayman S on the track and shit out a Boxster S at the pit stop.

The Toyota motor (massaged and camo'd by Lotus) had their version of Vtec running as well, the big difference now is that it is that VTECHK KICKED IN about 1300 RPM lower.

Last thought, what if Lotus outsourced the engines to a company like Honda that actually likes to race (but is too cheap to do it on their own)?

not exactly sure what the CT in CT SC stands for but i assume it has somethin to do with a supercharger. i dont have any plans for a supercharger, 300whp is a lot of hp in a car this small. the first three gears are insane and id rather be keeping my foot on the gas instead of worrying about spinning the tires all the time like i would with more hp.
i really think if you want more hp out of this car you need to get some very wide tires and flares to deal with that much power. kinda like this lotus, it has very wide tires and fender flares, this one has 500whp

actually the lotus is quite unbalanced. from the factory it come very rear heavy which causes snap oversteer when the back end come loose. the honda motor swap made the balance alot better. it helped the rear wieght bias by loosing weight from the swap. (dont know how much, havent weighed the car in a while). the motor is also mounted more forward than the toyota which adds more front bias which helps further. the motor not only is mounted more forward but lower also which helps the COG and improves the handling. the honda motor swap didnt hurt the balance/handling, it only helped it. plus double the power helps too.

Ct stand for comptech, they make a supercharger for the K and J series honda motors. I agree, it is a good idea not to add any more HP to that car unless you find a way to make sure all of it can transfer to the ground. Pretty crazy seeing all these super cars on AZ

You've joined a good site btw, I think you'll find we are not your typical ricer honda/acura forum in any way.
