TSX and 04 TL almost identical in shape!

Just go to Acura.com

And quickly point to the TL and TSX and see how the images would switch. The TL and RSX are almost identical in shape.

Things that are different:
1) The lower grille part has a split
2) different wheels
3) those running side channels.
4) the TL has sharp drop on the C pillar.

TL looks identical to the TSX!

come on, they are clearly not identical, go to a dealership and use your eyes and look at ACTUAL cars, they are styled similar, obviously, but not nearly as "identical" as you are saying. not to mention, dont people understand that the cars looking similar IS INTENTIONAL??? look at BMW....the 3, 5, and 7 ALL look the same, they always have, now the new 5 and 7 are the same new ugly style and the 3 will be the next to get revamped to the current trend in BMW styling. acura is simply trying to be more like BMW....

They are not trying to be like BMW.

It's called a corporate look.

BMW has the traditional double kidney grilles up front.

Pontiac has a similar look like BMW.

Chevrolet has a grille with a bar going through the headlights.

Mercedes - tailights... they all look the focking same.

Acura... they've never really had a "corporate look". But now they do with the TSX and the TL, mainly the headlight shapes.

Every company has a corporate/traditional look, because they want people to recognize it without looking at the badge and say, "oh, that's a _____".

To say that Acura is trying to be like BMW is absurd. It's a trend in the auto industry as a whole, not just with BMW.

By the way, it's a lot easier for BMW than other companies because all of the new BMW's are penned by the same person (Chris Bangle), whereas other companies, mainly GM, have a chief designer for nearly every model. It's harder for them to coordinate the designing processes. Yet you can clearly distinguish them.

Both are based on the Accord.
TSX = European small body Accord
TL = enalrged more powerful large body American Accord

oh my god what an eye roll... Of course the TL is similar to the TSX, the new TL is based off the TSX/Euro accord platform.
that is fairly obvious.
It was intentional!
www.vtec.net had a video interview with the designer a while back where he stated many bits about the cars platform and acuras future direction.

I don't think it was any secret that Acura is trying to create an identity for themselves, thus, making similar styling decisions across all of their lines.

I do agree with you b/c twice I have seen and Acura TSX approaching from the opposite direction and both times I thought it was the new TL until it got closer....

I do not understand that car's place in the Acura lineup at all....makes no sense to have 2 sedans and no coupe.

Most will agree, however, the reason it happened is b/c the CL was not selling well at all. Sedans typically outsell coupes... so that's why the CL is gone and the TSX is here.

Sedans = bread and butter. Coupes = enthusiasts

Until Acura comes out with a rear wheel drive (doubt it) or AWD (2 years i bet) they wont throw another coupe in the mix. Bet when they do have AWD a coupe based on the TL engine/drivetrain will follow.

and back on topic, don't look identical in person.

It all comes down to the almighty dollar yen euro whatever currency you count with .If coupes sold we would have a coupe but there are only so many factories Honda can call it's own so if 4 doors sell and coupes do not then the coupe goes bye bye and the 4 door is in .It's all about productio capacity so if a slow selling 2 door is eating up valuable production capacity and a hot selling 4 door or worse an SUV needs a place to be built then they will opt to lose a low profit coupe .Sad to see the CL go but lke I said it's all about the money .

The 5 series is certainly a departure from traditional BMW design philosophy .I have a sneaking suspicion that the rapid restyle of the 7 series due later this year is a harbinger that Mr. Bangle (head of BMW styling ) will not be a long lived employee there .ALthough the 7 and 5 are selling here they were poorly recieved by the critics and the public in Europe and although the American Marketplace is important it is not as important as the home market where the reputationof a whole company is being staked on very questionable styling .I saw the 5 long before it hit our shores and even then the people i was with all were aghast at the looks of the car even if it had some very good technical features .

Hell the two cars even have the same hood creases in them .. but I figure .. when Acura's new marketing strategy fails as badly as their previous generation TL/CL .. they'll just change it all again ... the fact of the matter is .. the recent newspaper articles about Acura's downfall is accurate .. and they are just doing the 'me-too' thing to copy other names that apparently have been successful

There were "rumors" about a rear drive, V8 RL at one time. In my opinion, we need a real world car to compete with BMW (7), Mercedes (5), Jaguar (J), and I hate to say it, Ford (Crown Vic & Marquis) and Chrysler (New).
Instead, Acura has revealed plans to use electric motors to power the rear wheels of the RL while keeping the V6 power plant as the main engine. Projected fuel mileage is over 45 mpg.
Performance? Who knows? We'll see.

It's not RWD. Coupes need STYLE. The Tiburon is an example of that, FWD, sells well.
