I'll have to agree that Honda has slacked on the performance end of things as of late, but Honda to begin with was never about high HP numbers. They were about balance. Light weight vehicles with a fair amount of HP.
The low curb weight offsetted the lack of Torque and the high revving motor made it a joy to drive. Honda was originally about maintaining a fun in-touch driving experience albeit some of that direction has been lost in the recent years. It could however be attributed to slacking sales and a much more profit driven direction.
Remember Honda had never produced a 13 second car (barring the NSX) until the S2000 and even then it takes a seasoned driver to break 14.0
To the person who made the point that Honda has gone in the direction of Toyota, I don't see why they wouldn't Toyota has slowly become the best auto manufacturer in the world (as far as sales are concerned). They are very efficient and produce cars that sell quite well.
As a matter of fact, they have gone in a new performance driven path with Lexus and their sales have slumped as a result. It's a fact that performance oriented car enthusiasts such as the members of this very forum are a small majority in the auto market.

Even in the 90s, Honda did not fulfill the entire market. I had an NSX that I had to sell due to having 2 kids. As much as I loved every aspect of that car, it would have been awesome to have an NSX with 2 small back seats. There were talks of having an S2000 coupe with 2 back seats but that never happened. Honda never satisfied every need out there. As much as I hate going to a 911 due to reliabilty and cost of maintenance, if Honda ever build a 2+2 sports car, I will be the first in line and I beleive many others will join - but for now, I have to pay in order to play

What I've realized lately is that both Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus seem to be producing some horrendously ugly cars. I can't think of a new Honda product that is truly a good looking car, and the same goes for Toyota. They may be more reliable (debatable) and sell in higher numbers, but I just don't believe there are people out there lusting over a Honda/Toyota product when on the other side of the world the German's are pumping out some amazing looking cars.

The 3rd gen TL was the last good looking Honda/Acura. Nothing recently does anything for me, although the CR-Z initially had me interested, I've lost it after reading/watching the reviews. Sad, so sad.

OP, go on that honda website with the tech in it... They love fanboys like you... May even get a reach around...
Honda lost its soul.. We all know it... Holding on to the 90s isnt going to help that

I dont think there is a "new" Honda.
Nobody really makes good handling under powered coupes anymore. Mazda makes the best drivers cars out of the affordable mainstream brands imo

I think I saw some recent Honda marketing vid, where the American CEO was explaining how 'Racing' could mean anything now. 'Racing' for fuel economy, 'racing' to be the most environmentally friendly, 'racing' to be the most dependable.
To that, I say bullshit! To Mr. Honda, racing was about R A C I N G. Racing led the company, but now its all this environmental bull. Why did Soichiro want to have the best fuel economy and lightest vehicles/motorcycles? It was primarily to beat people around a track, and secondarily to save the whales. But he wanted to kick butt around a track, first and foremost.
I could go on....but I'm pretty sure others can keep this going on fine without me.

The fact is there will never be anything like the 80's and 90's Hondas again. Environmental regulations, safety requirements and all that just means that cars will never be that small, light and raw again.
EPS is the way of the future... improved fuel economy.
More airbags and more bracing for increasingly stricter safety standards.... more weight

That vid is cool, cooler if it was '99 and I was 16 again then I'd have a hard on for it and kick my girl out of bed just so I can watch that vid by myself.

I know that as well, but more and more of them are produced on common platforms now. I suspect that Hyundai will be integrating Kia more and more over time. There is a lot of speculation that the Kia brand will disappear at some point. I'm not so sure about that, but there will probably be less and less differentiation between the brands as we move forward.

I'm not a fan of that Mugen RR thing at all. S2k FTW.
I'm keeping the TL until it dies so I get my monies worth but I doubt I'll be getting another Honda product after that.

I agree with you.....
Fads go out of stile, racing doesn't. .. a person could. have a stripped out crx caged up sitting on some old school mugen mr5's with a stroked 2L or have a a rsx (integra) with a built k24 sitting on some Volk te37's and they would both be in style you now why? Cuz circut racing will never go out of style.....

First of all you guys are comparing apples with oranges..... let me start with American cars.... they are great for a few years then they fall apart... I went threw three sets of motor mounts , a clutch, six disk cd player, radiator fans ,the interior was a mass of man mad fibers the car was just cheap.... although my tl is much slower... the quality is second to none....
.
.
want to talk about the 3 transmissions my acura went through in about 3 years?

The new Honda Car Culture is what killed my passion for Honda. I was a huge Honda Head throughout the 90's and the scene during that time was really fun and inspiring. The possibilities of what could be done with a 1.8L four cylinder motor seemed to be endless and was really driving the scene in those days. Witnessing David Shih hit the 10 sec. mark in his "Silver Bullet" CRX in Pomona was amazing (and Adam Saruwatari in his RX-7 too) or watching Shaun Carlson and Jason Whitfield (<--these two I considered my mentors and the reason why I got into the scene, RIP Shaun) Viet Lam, Ed Bergenholtz, Kenny Tran and Steph Papadakis really pushing the limits of Honda ingenuity really set the bar of where the scene is today. However, once the 90's ended, the Golden Age of the Honda scene was gone forever. Now it's filled with Ricer Boys with their god forsaken body kits and shady Know-It-Alls that would rather fight with their fist when their car gets beat as opposed to going back to garage and perfecting their tuning skills for the next race. Plus, growing up in SoCal, I sure as hell don't need to watch some shitty youtube documentary to inform me about Honda Car Culture, bitch I experienced it first hand!

sounds like we grew up together.....I remember when those guys weren't even at the track yet and we were still getting our shit done on the streets out in pomona, sylmar, compton, etc

i've owned nothing but hondas since my 16th birthday....from the crv, civics, integras, accords, legends, vigors and now a 3.5RL. however, that trend will end after i dump the RL. like many have mentioned, honda have lost its way. nothing in its lineup gives me that "wow" anymore like that '95 Legend LS coupe and NSX. i'm going German!

yea, because an RSX is what I want for circuit racing..................that said, i'm a huge fan of the CRX....but not what I want for a circuit racer...and I had a CRX track car. Even if it was all I could afford, i'd take a miata and about a dozen other cars first. But that still said, i still have much love for the CRX....and the motor from my CRX will go in an old mini cooper one day...but not back in another honda. an old mini with my b-series will be the only FWD car I ever own again

Dude are we the same person? We both come from the same background in the Honda scene AND you have the same dream of putting a B-Series motor into an old mini...screw FWD, use the CR-V drivetrain for AWD Mini madness...buahahahaha(<----evil laugh of destruction and world domination)!!!

BTW, I grew up in Pasadena, we've probably come across each other before. I use to work a shop out there back in the late 90's called Car Toys
