He doesn't need to invest anything.

Kid, I have two pieces of advice for you.

First:

I'm not really sure what you are asking here. Are you asking if its worth it to upgrade from a TL to an SLK 55?? Since it is costing you 0$, I would say yes, sounds like a great deal. It is obvious this is the car YOU want, so just go get it.

Second:

If you really expect to get legitimate answers after posting shit like this in a forum (mostly) full of working adults who have worked hard for and earned the cars they drive... then you've got a lot to learn. Go get your car, don't worry about the price, and don't expect much support from the AZINE community.

oh, and sorry, but :ibtheIwrappedmynewSLK55aroundatree: thread
agreed. All he had to ask was if he should get the benz. Everything else makes him look like a fucking pansy. I think he should get the benz, a chick car suits him.

Ok so let me get this straight? You told your dad to buy you something that runs well and has CD player. He goes above and beyond and gets you a 30k+ car with not only a CD player but a 6 disc changer. And now you dont like it? I mean whats wrong does the car not run well or is the CD player busted? If its only an 05 you should have a warranty on it.

From the bed of Zain B.

Okay Ahsan(badboy4life), now for my opinion. 1st of all, hope youre having a great vacation. NOW, When you first told me about the SLK a few days ago, i wasnt too knowing of all the specs and such, i just knew it was a really sick car. I looked up all that stuff and I love it too. Its a beautiful car, inside and out. Though, I do not agree with all these people calling you 'silver spoon fed', partially because I am too (ex. 1st car= brand new tsx). Though, I do agree with ONE post on this topic. 'You're going to beat up any car you have in college'. That makes a lot of sense to me. Just the other day, I asked my dad if i could trade in my TSX for a used G35 coupe, he said its almost a even trade if i find the right one, but i should wait till I atleast get into dental school before i get a new car. Because I know, once you move here, I'm gonna be driving a lot more than I am now, and he said i shouldnt get a new car and just put mileage on it right away, and i guess that makes sense. Now dont get me wrong, if you want it, go get it, shit, ill drag you to the dealership if you start having any second thoughts LOL. I dont think Saheem and I showed you the 335i in his Neighborhood, that thing is freaking clean! Just consider it. Yes, we will go look at all these cars the week you come for good. LOL. Okay, see you in a month and some change, because you know, you're moving here! haha, tell parents and sister that I said hello...or, maybe just parents. HAHAHAHAH

I saw plenty of people backing into nice Audis, Range Rovers, and G35 Coupes during college. If you plan on parking around camping, hauling friends, and driving around aimlessly (a college favorite), you're gonna be sorry that you didn't keep your TL.

Regarding the SLK being a girl's car. Most of the people I've seen driving the AMG versions are old dudes. Good luck with whatever you do, though.

Right here...

Was this reaction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTpJEoZ9S3g

when your dad brought home the TL even though you only wanted a car that ran with a CD player?

I think everyone has said enough about your "situation" (op), so...
What are your thoughts on the new IS-F? It looks like it's going to be a pretty hot car, not sure how it'll compete with the M3, but it's worth a look.

At least for me, the value of respect is much greater than the value of envy.

BUT my mom will probably help me with a down payment for a used 05-07 LGT if I decide to get one. But beyond that I'll be paying for ALL expenses, I just need her to cosign because my credit rating hasn't built up much yet.

Then again some people are just well off like this guy and I don't blame him. What can he do about it? If your parents were rich, and they would get you whatever you wanted without asking, why not spring for an M3?

haha yeah i think so too. anyways yeah dude the is-f looks pretty nice. its damn fast too, whats the price range on it? and i definitely like the m3 too. i love how the navigation screen is so damn wide. i mean im still going to keep my tl for another good year. bc the m3 probably comes out october/november of 2008. ive heard from m3 owners though, that the car is too technical and it has a lot of electrical problems. they mightve changed that int he 2009 model no doubt but looking at the way my dads sc430 drives with 108k miles on it, im leaning towards the lexus. what about a cayman s?

hows that asking to get messed with? if i get messed with it proves nothing but whoever messed with my car is jealous. i drove a 35k+ tl to HIGH SCHOOL for 2 yrs, why didnt i get messed with then? i also drove my dads lexus around, my moms benz, i didnt get messed with. i know i sound like a complete dick but cmon, nobody's car gets 'messed with' like that. unless ive got a personal issue with someone which i dont so idk

Sorry, forgot to add red text. I agree whole heartedly with your comment. I'm not a millionaire (hope to be soon), self made or spoon fed. I have raised to respect a hard work ethic and to work for what you've got. That's the attitude I take in life and the attitude I teach my family. I agree with your friends quote as well. Difference between old money/new money. First rule of having money is that you don't talk about how much money you have, nor do you brag about forcing your parents to buy you an expensive car

I guess when you live in a place like he does, cars like the Cayman S are commonplace, and nothing out of the ordinary.

Exactly what I was going to say.

In some ways, I would like to say that you need to work for a car. It would be the right thing to say seeing how 99.9% of us did not have the option to trade our $35K car for a $65K car at the age of 18-19. It's not common.

But with that said....my mom gave me $7K to buy my first car. I didn't really work for it. I offered to pay her back, but she said NO. That $7K for her was about 10%-15% of her salary for a year. So, who am I to judge this guy if his dad makes a lot of money and decides to buy him a really expensive car.

I say get which ever one you like. If someone hates on you for having the cash, so be it. It will happen. In fact....in about 10 minutes I may call you a spoilt brat. If you respect your parents for giving you what you have, then who can really ask for more.

And....you wouldn't happen to have a cousin in NJ called Jack, would you?

By the way, if it were up to me I would keep the TL til my Junior year of college and then get something nicer. Not because someone will trash it, or that your car gets messed up in college. My car in college was in really good shape, and no one ever messed with it.

If you MUST have a new car....I would go with the Cayman S. I like them.

I'm picking up on a little bustedjack syndrome here, I don't really care either way, it just seems unlikely he is telling he entire truth, his poor communication seems like the first obvious caution flag. His lack of knowledge about cars is also very concerning, he sees a SLK55 and falls in love, all while seeing ferrari, et al... now he is considering the new M3, CaymanS, Exige S and mentions the Z06(all of which were mentioned as cars worth cross shopping in this thread), it just doesn't add up. If nothing else the OP is very fickle.

Anyone comparing directly a Z06 and Exige S is probably not the type of person that would buy either, both cars are very extreme, yet are VERY different cars. The Z06 being an absolute brute, with a middle of the road interior and is fairly numb compared to the Lotus. Both are great cars but aimed at people with very different wants from a sports car.
