Toyota Trucks?

Hey all,

Mom lives on a horse farm and is looking for a new truck for farm use. It has to be a truck due to pulling a 2 horse goose neck and picking up hay, etc. Currently, she has a 4 door Ford Super Duty Diesel Lariat but it is a few years old and at 150k miles, it is starting to have problems.

She would be buying it so ideally would like something a year old or so. She doesn't really need the four doors now since her giant schaunzer passed and she doesn't do a ton of shows anymore but needs at least an extended cab.

She really likes the toyota's but we have never had anything but a Ford. The new diesels still seem to be having their fair share of problems so I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Toyota. The trailer is aluminum so it is relatively light but the horses are a good 1,500 lbs a piece. I have used an F-150 with the bigger V8 to pull the trailer but it wasn't ideal. Would the toyota be up to it?

Going to go up there and test drive for her since she hates it and wanted to have an idea what to look at. Can't stand the interior of RAMs FYI but am open to suggestions.

Aside from Ford, I like the Tundra's.

There's a few guys around my area who have purchased them to work, and generally seem satisfied with them. Most have experienced a few problems such as electrical and braking however.

If it were me, I'd probably take advantage of the rebates and purchase an extended cab F150 with the 5.4. Or if she needs something a little heavier, a 250 with the 6.8. The 6.8 is also surprisingly good on fuel.

From my experience, it did just fine carrying heavy equipment and pulling any trailer I hooked onto it. However my next pickup will be an F-Series as well.

Thanks guys. I went to look at the Tundra in Ocala (tons of horses and trucks in this town) and the people didn't know anything about what it could pull, axels, or hitches. The one guy said he had no idea but thought a Tacoma would be good for me. All I did was argue that I needed the longest bed possible with a good rear end for towing. He drove a Tacoma so back to suggesting that he went. Just didn't seem to get I was going to use it as a truck and pull stuff.

I don't get it, Toyota wants to be in the real truck market and in Ocala everyone has a truck but their sales people couldn't tell me anything other then the assisted tailgate and filing cabinet inside. The guy said he was embarrassed he couldn't answer my questions and I nicely said it was ok but if I were him I would study up to sell the next guy. His answer was that he should but probably wouldn't! I couldn't believe he has no interest in learning.

The only thing I can think of is people around where my parents live need trucks for work use and have always been loyal to Chevy or Ford and wouldn't even think of a Toyota.

That being said, looks like Ford is the way to go, granted a passed a new GMC and it was pretty nice looking. Too bad the company isn't doing so well
