I always liked them for no good reason. Sat in a used one at the dealership and it seemed pretty nice, roomier than a Miata.
Only issue is that you'd have virtually no place to put things bigger than a pair of sunglasses. It would maybe make a fun weekend car, but if you want a weekend car, there are better options out there.

idk they probably already are, toyota is out to earn maximum revenues, so they are pretty much canceling out its enter performance fleet. moving more towards economy= better overall sales
celica discontinued
mr2 possible
uhh i guess thats it for its performance cars

A con that was missed:
Atrocious reliability, not just bad, atrocious. I had the first one off the ship back in April 2000, after following its development since 1997. No exaggeration to say it was always in the shop. I can’t think off a piece that was not defective in some way. Although I had the dealership change the oil monthly with synthetic, the engine only lasted 6 months. Toyota handled it like a bunch of crooks too. Since I was the first with it, there was no precedence, but now, if you look on the Spyder’s online forum (spyderchat?), you will see that most people have had major trouble and a good portion have been through several engines. The Toyota Spyder has a design flaw with the catalytic converters, which cause the insides to disintegrate, blocking the exhaust flow.
That thing blowing up was the best thing that could have ever happened to me though, cause my God, that thing turned out to pretty much be the quintessential chick car!

Yea they discontinued the MR Spyder so they're all used now. I went onto Ebay out of curiousity to see how much they are going for used. I figured $9K....how much do you think they're going for? Guess...
Got your guess?
$18-19,000!!!!!!! You could get a used S2K for that much! A matter of fact someone just posted they bought a used S2K for like $18K. I just can't beleive they cost so much!

yeah that is an extremly nice MR2 turbo.....^^^^
as for the MR-S being over priced i have seen some with low mileage for around 13-15k on autotrader.com
i havent really heard anything as far as concerns with relability? this is news to me....
as far as an S2k its just not the same, im looking for an affordable MR car that is relitivly newer....i mean i was looking at some porsche boxster's, in my price range, but i got a quote from my INS company thus ruling that car out.

ive heard from my friend with a 94 turbo i believe thats the year
this one right here:
anyways he was saying that what some people do with the MR-S is take out the pos 138hp engine and swap in the celica GT-S engine with 180hp, he says that it makes the MR-S pretty quick and alot more fun than the 138hp engine. he was considering getting a new one until toyota canned the MR-S and Celica,

yeah i heard of this swap, its mind boggling if you ask me? i mean you taking an engine meant for an FF car and converting it to MR how would they bolt it up to the transmission, concidering the 2zz is a completly different motor than the 1zz-fe mr-2 engine....idk motor swaps to me are just way to messy especially when conciderinig drivetrane configuration.....i remember a guy on my old vvti.net forum took an old 98 1zz-fe corolla and swapped in a matrix 2zz-fe LEAVING IN 1zz transmission....the car ran but unfourtunatly the project was a failure because matching Lift(Vtec for those who dont know) with the 5 speed gearing proved ill-fated
