you have completely missed the point ... I'm not trying to get him to spend more money he doesn't need to spend just for the sake of a new car.
I'm telling him that he needs to do the math. If $3000 gets him 35k less miles that's worth considering ... The depreciation cost for a 15k mile 2010 is about $2500. I think that car is overpriced.

hey man i sell volkswagens and TDI's lease horrible you would make a big mistake if you leased one. you can buy it at a cheaper monthly payment and its a waste of money to lease a TDI in the first place because your getting a TDI because you drive alot of miles so one you mite go over your mileage on the lease which is gonna cost you $.20 for each mile over and second your prolly not driving enough for it to even be worth you getting a diseal because your not driving it enough to make it worth while to save the money in fuel. So long story short dont lease a diseal just buy it. If something new comes out in a few years you like better trade it in. TDI's hold their value and as long as your not flipped in the car youll be able to get out of your trade pretty good. Hope this helps. If you have any questions ask me before you let the salesman bend you over.

I was concerned about this too prior to picking up my TDI. From what I have read, the TDI will be OK for short trips if you occasionally take it on the freeway or give it a good rev here or there.
