Is this place any good? What is your expirence dealing with them? Do they really have the best prices, or you can get a similar deal at Sears or PepBoys? Did anyone compare?

Best of the best. Most of the time places like pepboys and sears have to price match tirerack since they are so cheap.

I usually do mine with Tiredepot their office is located just 30 mins from me so its easy to complain or tell them if something went wrong....Their prices are great and people who work there that I have experienced with are very nice too.

never had any issues with tirerack or discounttiresdirect, although tirerack has better prices, for the most part.

I get all my tires from them. It is way too easy and fast. I have them send the tires to a local that has a Hunter 9700 balancer which is the end-all balancer. Tire Rack can tell you who has one near you. (It is what Tire Rack uses when you order tires mounted on new wheels from them.)

I got my tires from there... and I felt like an idiot later. I thought I got the super best deal but ... christ.

So check it, they're a great store, etc, etc. Not a single problem with my transaction. But the thing is, it's a bitch to ship tires (especially thicker ones like ours). I paid about 88 bucks a tire + $40 for shipping and I forget whether or not they charged me tax. I paid $45 to have all 4 of my old ones discarded of and the new ones mounted & balanced. Other places in my area quoted me $50-$80 to do the same, but I found a cheap place by my workplace.

In speaking with the owner about cars and the like, I inquire abou what kinda price he's offering on them tires... he said $85 each. Z rated, 235/45/17 (stock rims).

So if I bought em from that local shop (and it's a small guy too)... it woulda worked out to $85x4x1.0825 (sales tax) = $368 OTD (out the door). With tirerack, shipping, mounting, discarding of the old ones, I spent something like $437. And that's assuming no sales tax in Cali, which I think there was. If they charged me sales tax, I spent a total of $472... I woulda saved $100 by going local.

My experience wasn't bad with tirerack, they're a great site. But I did end up paying more than I had to/shoulda. Only cause I heard (on this forum and others) that they have the cheapest. I checked with them, Costco, Big O Tires, etc, and they were the cheapest, yes. But the little guy had a trick up his sleeve.

All of you guys gotta remember..the Tirerack is great, but the moment there is a problem it becomes a nightmare. I mean if you get a tire with a bent bead...you gotta call tirerack and send it back to them, that is if they will take it back. Also, you gotta figure out the total cost.....which is mounting and balancing the tire...most places are gonna charge you much more than normal. You also don't get road hazard and any kind of warranty is gonna cost you out of pocket immediately.

Don't even get me started if they tire is out of round...a rare occurence, but it does happen...and you will get stuck with the cost of mounting and balancing still.
