Tints in NYC, 70% is legal ? SMH
I got a ticket the other day by some @ss hole cop who gave me a ticket for my tints. My tints are light on my Acura TL, not even pitch black. They said that my tints were 24% and it has to be at 70% visibility. Now I have to figure out how much the ticket is because it doesn't even say it.

So not sure how your state does it.

In Cali it's no longer a fix it ticket...Fix it tickets are for lights going out...broken windshield...Tinted windows on the other hand are not. Tints were put on knowing they are illegal. So you will need to get it removed or if you have a friend who is a cop....have him sign for it. I believe there is still a fine. I got fined for my tinted windows and tinted tail lights...$290 friggin bucks!

I got pulled over for tint last year in my 06 civic and it was just a "fix-it" ticket + $10. I just got a nearby CHP office to sign it off and i mailed it back.

Maybe it's because I'm old, but when did it become "tints". The "s" on the end just sounds so weird to me.
I tinted my windows. My car is tinted. What color tint did you have installed. It wasn't until recently, by younger folks, did I hear it referred to as "tints".

Basically any aftermarket tint is illegal. You just were unlucky. Happened to me, happens to all of us. Just chalk it up as tint tax. My ticket was like $130. If you appeal it and go to court and remove your tint you can get out of the ticket but then it'll cost that much to get it back on.

I just got a tint ticket in upstate New York (just south of plattsburgh...upstate). A trooper friend signed off on it, but I was then told by the judge that it is no longer a fix-it ticket. He dropped the ticket, but I still had to pay the $55 surcharge.

If it is a "fix it" ticket and you have a friend who works at a state inspection shop, they can probably sign off and mail it in for you. You'll get to keep the tint until that same cop pulls you over again.

Sigh. Is 70% tint even worth doing? I really love the 25% tints on my Accord, but I have a KBP and on my way to work I drive 50mph exactly for about 5 miles because of this stretch in NJ that cops love pulling people over at. My first day to work I got pulled over for doing 55mph. I'm not sure if I want to become even more noticeable to these cops.
The website says the rear windshield can have any darkness. Would it look odd to have different shades?

actually, our cars do not come with tints. even the tint on the top part of the windshield is darker than 70 percent.

Can you get in trouble for window tint if you go to a state that has different regulations than the one you live in? IE- Indiana allows all windows but the windshield to be tinted to allow I believe 25% of light in. If I go to NYC, can I get a ticket for it, even if my car is registered in a different state?

...And yes, 70% is the legal limit, in which with the factory tint you car comes with, that alone is probably 70%, so no tint is the only way it will be legal.
I have 35% on my car. Thank g-d I only had a problem once, but was stopped in a checkpoint looking specifically for tinted windows, so I was shit out of luck. I paid the bill and moved on. You should do the same.

They don't care. When I got my ticket, I attempted to send the ticket in with a receipt showing I paid to have the tint removed (I really didn't), and that didn't want to hear anything, and still made me pay the full ticket.

Its TINT...not sure how many times it has to be spelled out (literally)
If you call it TINTS...well...you deserve the ticket.
