Tint

So I just picked the Legacy up last night after getting it tinted, and as I looked at it in the light this morning I got pretty pissed off:

First, the stupid fucking stoners they had working on it etched the shit out of my windows trying to cut it to size, apparently:

Then, instead of pulling the brake light away (like they did when they tinted my CL) they just cut around it - I think it looks ghetto, but this is less of an issue...

This is how they left the the little driver's side rear window. They can tint over the dot matrix, right? I mean, even if they couldn't this is fucking shit.

So I called the owner just now and he sounded pissed at the kids or whoever does the tinting and said he wants me to come in asap so he can "rectify" the situation. Very stand-up guy, over the phone at least.

The rear window need to get retinted, obviously, but what the hell should I expect him to do about the etching? Can it be filled/taken off somehow? Do I make him replace three pieces of glass? Am I wrong about the cut around of the brakelight? I know I'm not just being anal about my new-ish car... right?

I'd expect him to replace the windows that got etched.

Man that sucks. When I had my CL and got it tinted, they told me they could NOT tint over the dots, so they did it as close as they could, came out good. Thats a pretty crappy ass job, Dirty, I would bring it back and show them. Let them refund you or do it again.

You are not being anal about your new car.

That is a sloppy and unprofessional tint job. The rear needs to be redone as well as that one window (drivers side rear.)

I don't know what can be done about the etching. How deep is it? Might have to have the guy replace the damaged windows...tough shit for him. He should take it out of the kids pay and fire them.

Sorry dude.

Nah, I'd be pretty pissed.

It seems like they really half assed it.

Even where they went around the dot matrix, they didn't even cut it straight by the looks of it.

I'd get that glass replaced, and get it tinted someplace else, after you get a refund from them.

Im not sure what you can do about the etches in your glass, but at least its nice of him to replace the tint where it looks bad. On my car too, the guy cut around the taillight instead of removing it, and its totally uneven, but oh well. btw....those guys suck at tinting. You should get a refund

I'm going to see the guy tomorrow morning, and the refund is a must, unless maybe he figures out a way to get me some etch-free glass and a better tint job.

I knew when I was dropping it off and handing my keys to that little shit at 8AM he looked like he had smoked a bone on the way to work. This is what I get.

that's a very half assed job...i'd let them try to fix it on their dime the first time. if it still doesn't meet your specs, then i'd take some new glass

and wash those windows, which they should have done? I know its hard to tell for the first 3-4 days, but dose it look like the inside/outside of the windows was throughly cleaned?? It may make the etching look less

My fiancee this morning said I was overreacting about it. I told her she doesn't know what she's talking about, so unless the conversation turns to shoes or sucking my dick she needed to quiet down. I wasn't in a very good mood.

I've used this guy before, as I said, but I guess he started subbing it out to little red-eyed guys. If I hadn't waited for the appointment and been anxious to get it on there I might have walked away after looking at that little shit and talking to him for a couple of minutes.

Just a local detailing/glass shop. Not sure who they subbed it out to. Looks like I should have used Eastern - now it looks like I got it done somewhere on the strip in Roxbury.

Cutting it right without fucking up the car is the one thing I would have done right if I had done it myself.

What are the general thoughts on cutting around brakelights? Me? I'm against it. Will a quality tint place tint under the light without being told to?

I've seen the brakelight both ways on a variety of cars.

I wouldn't say it looks bad persay, but I think I would prefer having it tinted over the same as the rest of the window.

Do you have a spoiler with a 3rd brakelight? If not, they are required (at least in NJ) to remove the tint over it.

that's awful. I don't think you are being anal at all. You have a $25,000 car that you worked hard for and when you take that car to a "professional" place and lay down good money, you should expect a professional product. If you paid $25 for it, then I'd tell you you're an idiot and you get what you pay for, but I'm guessing you paid somewhere around $150 for it. The owner should be ashamed.

and about the brake light, they tinted around it on my last car and I don't like it at all, but I will live with it just fine. The tint installer said that unless it is removed PRIOR to dropping it off, he tints around it. Looks like I'll have to remove it before I go in with my next car

$225., but that's around $50 under the local market price. I have the spoiler brake light as well so maybe I should have just removed the thing myself before bringing it in. I can live with that.

My boss, a generally knowledgable and handy guy, says that they can buff scratches out of glass... anybody back this up?

The place where I did mind acutally tinted over the dot matrix (of both my CL and the Legacy), and they did a pretty good job too. So yes, it can be done.

I'll try to snap some pics for you tonight.

Don't bother, I can see in my picture of their fucked up gap that they actually tinted over the dot matrix on the left side of the same window. Thanks though.

How's the Legacy treating you?

The place i always go is pricey, but absolutely the best and a lifetime warranty on all tints. I would be pretty pissed if i were you and expect them to completely replace and repair any damage they have done. However, did you sign any waiver when you dropped the car off? Some places will not be responsible for a shitty job. Either way, they need to fix that and those kids need to get a kick in the ass

No sign, no waiver. I say they were kids, but they might have just been short.

The Legacy is great. Only complaint is that the clutch STINKS. And I mean that literally.

There was one time I got stuck in stop-and-go traffic going up a mountain. Had to keep slipping the clutch inching along. Everyone in the car was like WTF is that smell?? It's embarssing...

damn dirty! i'd be pissed as hell!

tell the owner to get his ingrate workers off the coca before they start trying to tint nice cars. The last experience these kids probably had with cutting anything was construction paper in grade school and this isn't a fuckin diorama of the solar system, this is a fuckin subaru legacy. pricks.

What would be the concern about doing that? The tint wouldnt sit right or be more prone to bubble? I dont know shit about window tints other than it looks good on my black car.
