There is also the even more rare 4WS models...which I think are better then the ATTS system in the Type S.

I still dream of finding another CLEAN 3rd gen...with 4WS this time. I want see how it do in autoX....I come across them once in a blue moon on CL....but they are usually in piss poor condition...I miss my 3rd gen

E34 5 Series. Amazing looking cars.

The best of the E34s was the 1995 540 M-Sport

There are tons like the Supra and 8 series where it was the last of the breed so it stays new long after it is retired.

The 911s (in this case the 993/996/997) where the the shape is so evolutionary that it never gets old because it always looks so similar.

Then there are designs that are just well amazing and exotic and carry on in the hearts and minds eye, such as the Ferrari V8 "Dinos", the 348/355/360/430 in the time frame.

Then the handsome designs that just please most more than subsequent iterations such as the E39 5er and the E46 M3 (possibly).

But, counting out exotics I think the 911 design is the king of this concept, it is hard to argue when the shape is so pleasing and has been far more similar than one could imagine for over 40 years. No car design has aged so well for so long except maybe the Cobra and the GT40 but neither has been in constant production. The 911 remains one of the most desirable sports cars despite its evolutionary design and bass ackwards drive train, as PJ opined "Ass engined Nazi slot car" indeed.

Just look at this shot. It's all in the angle from which the pic was taken. It just gives me the meanest hard-on.

911 will be timeless because Porsche has kept the same design since the beginning of time and I'm sure until the end of time.

Not a big 911 fan but I agree that it looks timeless. If you put one from each year from 1995-2006 all in a row I probably couldn't tell you which year each was from.

2 cars jump out at me:
late 90s early 2000's
Benz E-class. I occassionally see one running around and it's still a good looking car.
#2. Pontiac Firebird WS6. Yes the old F-bodies. there's one guy around here with a jet black one he gets out when it's nice on the weekend. he keeps it garaged. but after it's polished up it looks SOOOOOOOOO SEXY with that ram air hood.

I have to admit, the nostil looking ram air hood on the WS6 trans am does look good...

Someone should start a "Untimeless Designs" thread, so we can talk about the VehiCross and the like.

The 997 GT3!! The P-cars give me some pause, in that I LIKE their shape but I do not love it. In a year or so one would have the choice of a (used) 360 or a (new) GT3 for about the same scratch. No question the GT3 would be cheaper to own and be a better performer in every objective category but there is something about the shape and mystique of the F-car. While the GT3 is quite special and car guys (and girls) will see that, the average person will see a just another 911. For me the GT3 is a head car and the Modena is a heart car.

I've ridden in the previous gen GT3 on the autoX course. It was very nice..Though the ride I took in a Elise right after kicked it's ass.

I was just looking at pics from my autoX teams last event ( I have not attended in a VERY long time) and someone is now running a Modena...I have GOT to get back.

There was also a c6 z06!

I think the current Gen Audi A8L will never be out of fashion, it just looks superior in every single way you look at it.

Yeah I agree, most of the Audi Designs since the late 90's have a very timeless look to them. They're really simple in a good way, kind of like that 90-93 honda accord design which still looks real good today.

Porsche?! 4th gen Prelude is more awesome! :sigh:

I'll vote for the Toyota Cressida. Guy must have taken it out of his garage for the first time in 5 years today, cuz it was the only car on the road not covered in salt grime. Very clean, burgundy. Nothing says JDM more than a classic boxy Toyota!

To me the original 2nd gen T/A was the best looking one of the bunch. The C-pillar & nose look a lot better than the ones on the Burt Reynolds T/A.
