Thoughts on Nissan Versa?

Just hit about 67k on my civic (2001) and thinking of trading it in for a Versa. Thoughts?

I see a ton of them in the city, so they cant be bad. But i think the car looks awkward, its disproportional...

I like the looks personally (hatch). I have one today that I'm borrowing and it's quite more solid then the civic. One thing I didn't like about the civic is how floaty it is. This will be a DD/beater type of car. I can get an exceptional deal on a versa (friends with the GM at a local nissan dealeship).

I've driven a rental Versa hatchback and I wasn't too impressed with the steering feel or with how the transmission shifted. I own a 2004 civic sedan (very similar to yours) and it definitely feels a look better than the versa.

it looks like youre looking for a car that you can always rely on and a vw really isn't that.
i'd go for the versa. my roommate has one and i drive it all the time. its pretty comfortable and with the back seats down its great for lugging stuff around too. i've moved from dorm to frat house to apartment all in that little car.
plus its still small enough to easily parallel park and what not.

But really, the automotive industry has this bad habit of being behind as far as customer perceptions go. VW especially had a bad rep in the 90's and early 00's but the current gens are leaps and bounds better then the previous generations. The reverse is happening to Toyota, they were known as being great cars, reliable, well built, not so much now. But people still walk into Toyota dealers w/ the same perceptions, dont know much about cars and buy them under those pretenses.

I've only ever sat in one - never driven the Versa. However, for something that size, I'd much rather take a Mazda 3 (which I have driven).

Same here. I driven a versa and thought it was a snooze.

Granted its a DD/beater but it still has to be somewhat entertaining since you have to drive it often.

Dont buy it just because you have a hookup. Damn brownie.

I thought the Fit (first gen) was much better than the Versa. So I'd imagine the 2nd gen Fit only widens that gap.

My question is what's wrong with the Civic? Considering your "weekend" car who cares what your DD/beater is as long as its dependable, comfortable, good on gas and its not embarrassing to be seen in.

So again, what was wrong with the Civic? Trying to ditch it before the timing belt/water pump change?

Oh, i know. It's just fun watching someone so blown away by somehting that they become very strong advocates about something! Esp. since your other cars is so different!

fit or rabbit IMO are the only choices in this segment. Go drive all 3 back to back, the choice will be really clear after that.

2004 must be a big step up, the civic "feel" is terrible. Super loose, floaty, and feels like I'm going to get blown off the road on a highway. The versa on the other hand feels alot safer, roomier, and solid. This is my 2 day review.

^the new civics are really good, haven't driven the generation you're talking about. but my mom has an '06, and it drives very nice, no "floaty" feeling IMO.
but i agree with the rest, fit or rabbit

Easily solved, get a license plate holder: My other car is an NSX

I vote FIT too.

Eibach pro-kit, tokico blues, front and rear upper strut bar, better tires will fix the civics problem. Should cost less than $1200 instead of the price of a new car.

The Versa gets the worst mileage of cars in it's class. The Honda Fit would be a better choice, or get a CPO 06+ Civic.

The Versa isn't bad, I guess....I know you don't plan on getting the same kind of thrill with the Versa as you would in your NSX, but at least get some fun to drive feel in your DD...I'd go for a FIT or Rabbit/GTI....

I believe that they updated the suspension at some point. They also updated interior materials (cloth, center console, gauges) and replaced the front bumper/hood/headlights and rear bumper/lights.

Where are you pulling this from? I just compared the Fit and Versa for example, mileage is almost identical.

Over here, the Nissan Tiida (your Versa) is marketed as "compact meets luxury". I wouldn't go that far, but the car is extremely roomy given that it's a hatchback / runaround car.

If you can get a sweet deal, then go for it.

But my money is on an Imprezza. The notchback/hatchback, AWD, and the prices is not bad... Yep, more Subaru from me..Unitl I have a problem.
