Thinking about putting some money down on an E90 M3

Most of the dealers already have a 30+ name waiting list and if I were to put my name down now, I would be about 15-17 at a large dealer in Orlando. (Basically 6-8 months after they come out I would receive mine) The deposit is fully refundable until I would select the options so I would be able to see the car and drive it before deciding what I want to do. It's actually a perfect situation because I will get out of grad school in August 2006 and the car would be available around late April or early May of 2007.

My main competition to this is the C6. The two positives with the Vette over the E90 is that after 3 years of production, most of the kinks should be fixed and also it should be about 10,000-12,000 cheaper.

Just looking for some advice on what to do because it's hard writing them a check without seeing the finished product.

M3 will hold its value much better than the Vette.

Its hard to decide without driving both, but if the deposit is refundable, I would do it.

gonna give somebody else 17 large and let them sit on it? Why not invest? If money isn't a thing and it seems like it isn't then get the m3.

Thank God thats not the down payment or I wouldn't even bat an eye in that direction. The down payment is either $1,000 or $1,500.

Well my problem is that I am in grad school and I don't want anything "really" nice at school (reason for selling my MB before I came back) because people here are so damn careless about cars.

The current M3 is one of my favorite vehicles on the road but everything that I have read about the E90 should blow the E46's doors off.

yeah, i've heard the same but wait and see i guess. Are you considering any other cars, or is it definitely an M3?

Maybe next C55. I had a C32 and loved it but MB's reliability is a concern with me.

That is a nice looking car with a very good 5.5 liter v-8 engine. Around 376 lb-ft of torque and 362 hp. But then again its not a coupe

My thoughts....and guesses

E90 M3 will cost more than the E46 m3

First year production =

Dealer will charge way over sticker for the car for the first year (did that with most e46)

But you will be the envy of all your friends

Yea. I am over the 1st production year which helps the Vettes cause. The dealer that I would buy it from will not charge over MSRP if you order it so that really isn't a fear that I have.

The one thing I like with the BMW is the free maintenance which makes everything a little easier. (even though its really not much)

30+ names at most dealers, get the fuck out of here.......the car is like 2 years away.

Guarantee I call my dealer and he doesn't have one name down on the car yet (if anything 1).

15-17k to put down your name on a list? That is without a doubt, the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard.

You're a car dealer's dream.

Read the whole thread this time. It's only $1,000.

And I have called all nearby dealers (Atlanta area) and all had lists over 30.

Hell, if it’s only 1,000 bucks I may put a deposit down on an M3 as well.
Even if I don’t buy it, I can probably sell my spot in line on EBAY once the moneybag procrastinators decide they want one.

exactly. I remember 2 cases.
when the first WRX Stis hit USA shores. I heard to buy reserves on Ebay they were going for 5000+whatever dealer wants(which was above MSRP)(Which is hella gay) those guys were making money like crazy. all they had do do find 1000 bucks then put their name on the list. post the reserve on E-BAY and boom there's 4000 grand they've cleared.

another one was when the VW Golf R32 hit came out. I heard reserves on EBAY was going over 3-4 grand.

a lot of people aren't patient. they'll pay over MSRP for something if it's new. personally I won't pay MSRP. MSRP price is for suckers.

IIRC, the early 350Zs were also going for thousands above sticker. Now it can be purchased for near invoice.

I think the first spots for the 645Ci Coupe were selling for pretty high too when that came out.
I remember an order reservation spot for a white convertible on EBAY for around 10-Grand, but I don’t know if it sold.

I guess we’ll have to remember to give this thread a “BUMP” in 2-Years and see what happens.

Lol.

I was just thinking that.

You'll easily make a profit.

Yes I should have read the whole thread......but you do write like a retard.

Next, go to another area to put a deposit down.

I'm really curious to see how BMW prices this. Since the 6-series came out, I have always thought that it was about $10,000 too much. Another problem I have is if the M3 coupe reaches into the high $60,000's then I'll have to look somewhere else. The current M3 at $58,000-$60,000 loaded is a great deal, but adding $10,000 to that might be a little hard to justify unless it is the best M3 BMW has ever made.

I have an appointment set up this week to go drive the C6. The only thing I can really do is compare it to the current M3 and then try to figure out what the next M3 will bring to the table.

I haven't been this confused since my first date.

I just got back from driving the C6 and all I can say is WOW.

It really, REALLY blew me away. It's not as nimble or as luxurious as the M3, but in my opinion it does everything else better. What I was shocked about the most is that the Z51 felt much better around town and on the highway than the M3 did (could be that 1st day syndrome).

I've got a few days before I have to make a decision and more than likely I will still put the deposit down on the M3. But unless the E90 is much better than the E46 is, I'll save 10,000 and get the Vette.
