Thinking about making exhausts ... teach me about mandrel benders and tig welders

As mentioned Im thinkin about making exhaust for imports (maybee domestics not sure yet) mainly focused on acura/honda especially on those with aftermarket turbo and supercharged kits Basically everything will be hand mande.

Anyways now that you know my plan, I need a mendrel bender and Tig welder.

What do I need to look for, what do i need to know, who are the main players/companies, how cheap or expensive is this, whats the best way to get this done right

I basically want to be able to do from 2.25-3.5" exhaust (i heard the peice to make 3" exhaust is like 500 bucks wtf ... i hope that wrong)

Also how hard it it to learn how to tig weld.

Ok...you're getting into some pretty $$ shit here

Mandrel benders start no lower than ~30K for manual machines
Tig welders start at ~1500

Welding is like anything else. You need to do it alot to learn it well.

I agree that you need to get some experience before attempting to fab exhausts yourself....this not only has to do with the actual fabricating, but with the engineering of an exhaust system.

If you are gonna do it, I think I should get the 1st setup free for this GREAT advice.

Good luck man.

I also think you should PM allmotor, scalbert,e tc.....they are the fab pimps on the forums

if you can MIG weld, TIG welding is not far off.....

Yeah, mandrel benders are $$$$....the cheapo ones are ~30K...the large diameter automated ones can run well over 100K

i would suggest getting a normal pipe bender.....test fiteverything with that and get a model of a working exhaust with all of the correct bend, angles...if you want to then mass produce mandrel bent tubes, take it to a ship and work out a deal.

umm old post, but mandrel benders arent quite that much...my shop was looking at a few for around 10k...the industrial ones are many times more, but basic ones arent.
