Test drove the S60R

although i MUST say i was superbly impressed with the interior styling of the car, its lowend torque was close to non-existant.

granted, i drove the auto, but it's off the line performance wasn't the greatest. its midrange and topend were what i expected from the car. the sound of the engine is absolutely wonderful. if anything it sounds more like a supercharger than a turbo.

i give it a 7/10. i liked it, but for some reason after driving it, i wasn't into it as much anymore. my car still seems just as fast, if not faster.

There was the problem, the only way to go is the 6spd....the Auto is down on torque (its around 260 or so). The 6spd has 295ft lbs, so its a different animal.

have driven 2 R's in the past 3 weeks - both 6Spds - both awesome. the one I drove this past Monday night had the Suspension S/W upgrade, which really enhances the 4C suspension setup - especially in the Advanced Mode. Try taking it out on some well known twisties and you'll be amazed as to how well this thing holds the road - even when you know you've gone beyond what your normal limit is, this thing makes you believe there is soooo much more room available. The GT's are known to be problematic, and are the topic of much debate on the Swedespeed boards (variation of the RX-8 HP issue, but solely related to the GT's ((auto-tranny))). Turbo kicks in just below 2K, and there is extremely little (if any) turbo lag. Premium stereo system is the best factory I've heard, period (doesn't mean it couldn't use a couple of tweaks), but then I didn't play with the hidden menu/eq either - makes any Bose H/U sound like an AM radio by comparison (haven't heard the Marc Levinson so can't say it's the best ever). Seats are flat out the most comfortable I've ever sat in - definetly designed for long-legged cruising or ricky road-racer types. This car is getting serious consideration as a replacement for the '98 M3.

the leather seats on the S60R is soo soft feels just like one of my leather jackets. it kina almost felt too thin and that it would rip, but that was just from my touch.

the 4c suspenion is just stunning.

problem with the auto is that the owners are claiming that the printed numbers and reality don't seem to be in the same ballpark

i guess i'll take out the 6speed for a run soon. i just dont wanna look like a jackass cuz i dont know how to use 3 pedals very well.

car looks nice in that red or that dark silver metallic shade.

not that i care about 1/4 mi in a car like that, but what are the times for the 5AT and the 6MT?

lease prices on this car seem pretty outrageous, was quoted in the $730 range w $2k down, 15k mi/yr, 36 mos. i think a finance would be a better route.

That's why I cancelled, the car leases like shit and I wasn't really interested in buying a Volvo.

rondog......the time differences are rather significant, not sure of the exact #s (but the auto is good for about 7.0sec to 60 and the 6spd is like 5.6-5.7 give or take).

Oh, and yes I'm a little twisted.

There is a fairly large torque difference, for whatever reason Volvo's slushbox isn't strong enough to handle the higher 6spd torque #.

Between being a 6spd and having more torque, the car is just faster.
