Test Drove the RSX-Type-S

Gotta say -- SOLID car -- the first thing I looked at was the MSRP sticker on the window --> 95% of its parts are from Japan, 5% domestic .. final build dest.: Natag..., Japan. Everything inside that car is solid, no creaks, rattles -- nothing. It reminds me a lot of the interior of the IS300, and I think the dash board w/ the tach/speedometer is verging on cheesy --> the plastic embossed (raised) circular dials -- but I think I could QUICKLY get used to it. Exterior is actually pretty cool, I'd want better rubber than the Michelins they provide. Don't know if I wanted the spoiler though. The car I drove (continental acura) only had 50 miles on it, so I was warned not to rev it too high. The car is quick, nonetheless, and I WANT THAT SIX SPEED IN THE TL-S!!!

Ugh .. why oh why! This thing corners like a bat outta hell -- (I wasn't warned to corner slowly)... The short-shifting six-speed is a joy -- it's just like click, click, click... not rowing a boat or anything. The sport clutch is a breeze to work. It's pretty loud though, and though it has a refined note to it, I do still prefer the sound of the TL-S V6. My buddy and I are going to go in on Thursday -- he wants to buy it or the Aegean Blue TL-S. I'll bring him to the next meet w/ his RSX, so you guys can check it out if you haven't already!

Glad to see that the build quality is there. Like another topic mentioned I would sure love to see the Type R reach our shores, but I guess at the price it would command it not bein the age range of its targeted customers.

Why is the lower priced RSX built in Japan while our TL/CLs relegated to the US??? Plus aren't our parts 70% domestic, 30% foreign vs the RSX 5/95?

I don't think there's a navi option. Too bad. That makes in the only US Acura without a navi option. If it did, I'd consider an RSX-S. But without it, no chance.

This is probably the only way Acura can keep costs down for the CL and allow it to compete with BMW, Audi, etc. Otherwise, the CL's price would be much closer to the rest of it's competition, such as the 330, and Acura would lose sales. Just a thought, I'm not sure about this.

No Navi for sure. 23,170 w/o destination, 23,700 w/ it. Spoiler is another $400.00, upgraded 16" rims are another $1200.00.

I think with the yens strength against the dollar, it really doesn't matter if the car is built in Japan or the US. The costs would probably be about the same. As far as noticing the build-quality by test driving a car, I am not convinced of it. Drive it for a few thousand, then talk about build quality. Other than that, I'm glad you like it.

Well, I'm sure it'll be somewhat higher if it was built in Japan, but I doubt by all that much.

A better reason the CL is built in the US is because it is only sold in North America.

Saw two at the dealer today, and a third being testdriven.

Great little car.

I gotta say, while the interior is more economy than luxury (as well it should be), it sure was nice inside. Great little features prove that some thought was put into the design. The cupholder/ashtray, the air vents, the dash. Neat stuff.
