Test drove a new Hummer H2

That thing is absolutely awesome! It rides like a Lexus with its full air suspension and the 6.0 Liter engine is pissed! It comes with tons of cool features and the aftermarket support is already taking off. I found a supercharger on E-bay for it already, and HID's.

Anyways, I can imagine driving that thing up to the mountains towing our quads for a night of riding and camping. My wife is ready to trade in her 01 Silverado Z-71 LT. If only they wern't 50k

Everyone stares at that beast... it is longer and taller than an H1, but not as wide!

I'm thinking 10-12 mpg on the highway, buttttt it has a 32 gal tank,,,,, sooo about $48 to fill up every 300 miles. Most of these will be low mileage toys.

6.0L displacement
overhead valves (OHV)
V8 cylinder configuration
gas engine
16 valves
316 hp @ 5200 rpm
360 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm
regular unleaded fuel

If I didn't need my 2000 4 door Silverado Z71 LT or a pickup truck period, I would have an H2 in my garage now, that thing is awesome, what a nice CAPABLE truck...and you're right, there is going to be TONS of aftermarket for that motor and drivetrain!!

Astroboy,

Everyone says it is just for yuppy's and such but your right... It is very CAPABLE of doing some kick ass offroading. We do use the bed of the Z-71 quite often but I'm sure we could do without it. I'm not too sure the H2 would fit in our garage... It might be too tall!!!

it would prolly be too tall for my underground also...my truck barely fits with it's larger tires LOL
I use the bed all the time! for taking my bike to the hills, or moving my 4 wheeler to the shop when I break it, which is almost every time I use it LOL...and to move dirtbikes around for people as well as my street/track bike....
I do have access to a 16ft trailer that I could do all of that with, but it's a lot more difficutl to find parking etc, and it's rarely I would need more than the space my truck can offer....

Yeah, we would need a new trailer for our quads... We have a 4'X6' trailer cuz we put one of the quads in the bed... Otherwise, I could just park the H2 in the driveway. We are in an excelent neighborhood

it's a 8 cylinder and only 16 valves? isn't that bad? it'll only be 1 intake and 1 exhaust.

if you add the supercharger, will it give you better gas mileage?

It rides like a Lexus
No it does not. It has big tires which makes it cushy though.

Off a stretched Tahoe. So GM has figured another way to make money from that platform.

Blah

These things are just plain dumb. I have some family that owns 1,000 acres in Colorado and I asked them why they don't buy a Hummer. The Hummers actually get stuck between trees on logging roads where they live! I would love to get a photo of this and post it here. They are just too wide and useless for city and forest driving. I want to see someone parallel park one in downtown Seattle some time!

The H2 will never be able to offroad like the AMG Humvee. There is no way the H2 can climb and tread water. Especially being made by GMC. I would save your money or put a little extra in for the REAL Hummer.

FYI, it's not a streched Tahoe...
it's the front end from a 2500 series truck, grafted to the independant suspended rear end of the 1500 class...

thanks for coming out.

First of all, the H2 is not as wide as the H1. Fitting in between trees would be fairly close to a full size truck fitting through the trees. And yes, it is not as capable for offroading as the H1 but about 78% capable meaning it will still beat the pants off of a 70K Land Rover.

The creature comforts in the H2 surpass the H1 by ten fold. Go look at one before you knock it.

They are weak compared to an H1, I work for em, driven em both. the H1 is a real military beast, the H2 is based on GMC truck frame. It's not exactly the same thing, there has to be a reason it costs $50k versus about $100k for the H1, and it does not ride like lexus. I don't think it has the cool remote tire inflator/deflators either.
And to top it all off, they have women in the commercial, I'll be damned if I drive a H2 if chicks have a bunch of em. Are they tryin to turn it into a pathfinder or something?
Actually, that should be an indication of the changes, as I don't think they ever even had to advertise the original hummers.
