Test drove 03 RL.

Hey guys just test drove an 03 RL today. Its an awesome car. The leather seats are great, the real wood and its accents are amazing and the navi is bigger then the tl/cl ones (would be awesome screen to use for navi/dvd conversion . The suspension isn't as firm as the typeS cl/tl but its not that bad.

I'd love for my dad to get this car but I wouldn't let him b/c of the engine. It builds up speed slowly despite its torque and doesn't have vtec. If Acura dropped its MDX engine then I'd def. tell my dad to take a look at it, but acura didn't and won't...which plain sucks.

my dad has the 1999 RL, and i like it... still has real good pickup and the new 2002 RL has more power so i dont see how people can call it slow. I think its faster than a TL-P or a CL-P

I love the seats in there by the way... oh soo nice. But yea still not worth 45k, maybe if it was 40k with navi then it would be worth it.

"faster" is such a loaded and relative term.

The RL is 3920 lbs.
CLP is 3470lbs.

CLP: Torque: 217ft-lbs. @ 4700 rpm 5 speed auto

RL gear ratio[list=a]
1st
2.458

3rd

4th

3rd 1.021
4th 0.653
5th 0.470
Reverse 1.846

With that price, I would stick to the Lexus GS430, or the BMW 540. They are better than the acura rl.

The weakest links of the RL are its engine and lack of upscale features (i.e. heated steering wheel, cooled seat etc.) The engine isn't even v-tec and is mated to a 4speed auto . However, I think the RL is a sharp looking car and actually looks better than the current ls430 and Q45 IMHO.

RL offers nothing that a Maxima or TL-S does not offer.....

The car is ridiculed overseas as the Honda Legend. Please discontinue it and put it out it's misery.......

Ok, as a legend owner i have to defend it, even though its not called that in this country.....I totaly agree that right know it is not a great car for the money, but keep in mind that this body style was released in 96, making it 6 years old, so its due for a re-design. Once the 03 comes out (cause the one now is an 02, not an 03 as the person who made this post said) It will have a V8 and prob. RWD, and most expect it to be able to play with the big boys of the luxuray world.

Why would they do that? The 2002 just had a so called upgrade, with more power.. i dont see acura making a all new RL for 2003. I think they upgraded the 2002 RL just to stall time on the release of the v8.

They might do how they are with the TL, 2002 was a facelift and new engine, and for 2003 was the same car. But for 2004 TL will be brand new. I think thats how they will do the RL, 2003 model should be the same as the 2002 model but the 2004 model will be the V8, at least thats what i hope.

Collective27, the TL is more of a Legend than that RL. Understand that no one bought it in 1996 let alone today.

In Atlanta you can get new ones for 8k off the MSRP no arguments and the resale value is so low, you can get a 96-98 for under 20k easy and Tom, Dick and Jane are now buying em and slapping Lexani's on em:thumbsdn:

Acura did not see the mistake Lexus made with the 1st gen GS 300. That car at least looks distictive but it totally lied about it's sports sedan image just like the RL.

My fault guys, it was an 02 RL, not the 03, 03 is stuck in my head b/c of the CL and next gen accord coming out in 03. Sorry for the discrepancy.

I agree that the TL is more of a Legend, as its more sporty and has a 3.2 engine like the Legend, but the RL was suposed to replace the legend, it just didnt do a very good job. Im not saying that the RL is good for the money, but its still a pritty good car.
