Test drive of BMW 750i xDrive
Let's see:
1989 Accord Coupe-power locks failed constantly, power antenna replacement, rotors warped, got rid of car in 1.5 years;
1991 Prelude-oil sending unit failed and oil-starved valves; total rebuild of 2 year old engine
2000 CL-S: 3 transmissions, leaking oil pan, right rear coil spring cracked in half, passenger side window stopped going up or down, power mirror stopped working. Got rid of this colossal POS as fast as I could. 2 of the tranny failures were at 55+ mph when the thing decided to shift from top gear to 2nd nearly sending me through the windshield both times.
I'd love to be able to buy a decent Acura product but based on my experiences will never again (except an NSX) buy an Honda/Acura again. I've never had a single problem remotely close to what I experienced in my "Asian" years with my BMW's, four thus far.

The reliability of my first one (E46) was decent... the only repair I remember in 48000 miles was the control arms.
I never expected my E90 to be such a reliability disaster, in warranty or not.
The grocery list is stunning, as is the repair bill ($8237 only things that would have been covered under BMW's warranty/maintenance program, no mods, tires) to bring it from 50 to 85K miles. Scratch this maybe $2K because I replaced the 4 shocks and my car was lowered. Thanks I did minor maintenance myself (oil changes, spark plugs, air and cabin filters, sensors, seasonal wheel changes, brakes and rotors) or it would have been worse!
On the top of my mind, under warranty;
- new, my car had a voltage drain and was dead after 2 days, they kept it a total of 3 weeks in the first 3 months to solve this.
- the sunroof cartridge was completely replaced
- steptronic was replaced
- engine head was opened and exhaust valves replaced because of noise
- it took 1 qt of oil every 2000 miles from day one
- sensors
- valve gasket
After the warranty
- A year later they quoted me $3600 as the mechanic heard a noise from the differential. I barked and they wanted to settle to $1800. I declined and the pseudo noise didn't get worse. The net result is $0 and my buyer didn't mind either.
- valve gasket PLUS the valve cover
- steptronic was gone again but I was able to rebuild the wiring myself for $10 and a few beers.
- 2 more O2 sensors
- water pump + thermostat, a $1500 job
- a special coolant hose ($400), damaged by the constant lead the engine head leaks.
- ... + normal stuff
I am not saying that I wouldn't buy a new BMW again, but a lease would be a better idea.
Still think the S-class is the king of this of class.....
I can't say enough good things about mine. It is a masterpiece. Looking forward to head to head comparo's with the S-class....

Do you keep them past warranty?
